Got my new prop yesterday. It's a 9x9 for my 20hp Evinrude. Question is, I picked up a "whale tail" a few weeks back that will fit my outboard, but what's the advantage? I'm not sure if I want to mount it or not. I'm pushing a 16" flat-bottom, and I weigh 300 lbs., so the motor is pushing a load.

Easy steering and will keep the bow more steady. Wont bouce up and down another words. I used them on all my flat bottoms and a tracker I had a few years ago. They work well.

They help hole shot and alow for slower speeds with higher trim without porposing. Once moving fairly fast, on most boats, they raise above the water and do nothing. But at slower speeds they run just at the surface and keeps the porposing down thus using less fuel due to the higher bow heilght (less resistance+lower RPMS=Fuel mileage). Put it on and try it. The negative part is I have seen some cavitation plates (where it bolts) break off. This is far and few between. Just my 2 cents.
