I'm for the dumping theory. If someone would have caught it in the water, then I would believe it.
 
The guide only found cause it was floating in the water. When he said it's not a hoax he simply meant he did find it dead in the water where someone had dumped it to be found.
 
No doubt someone thought it would be a big attention getter to drop a dead shark in the water. I've heard of bull sharks making it pretty far up the Mississippi but it would be impossible to get into Guntersville unless someone released it alive.
 
There is the reality of a bull shark being caught around Alton, IL. This case would be a planted shark for the attention. My buddies in college had a collection of critters for their anatomy class- one was a small shark. When they got done with it, they put it in a mud puddle in an alley!
