My son loves the BB gun range at Skymont Scout Reservation, he want to practice so he can get a sharp shooter patch.. What is the best quality accuracy for under 70 bucks ? He drives me nutz to go hunting .. but I told him he needs to wait till he is 9 before I will take him.
He also loves shooting the bow there too .. need some ideas on the best bow to get him to practice with .. of course cost is a factor would like to keep both under 70 each

What would yall suggest .. and if anyone has either of these used .. in great condition.. Id love to buy for him..
He aint crazy about fishing but very interested in hunting .. he really has no idea what he is talking about but is eager to go

Thanx
Sean

I don't know about the bb gun but you should get him a Crickett .22 and let him start target shooting with it. Got my boy one for his 6th birthday. Very safe gun and helped him learn about firearms safety.

Sean, There is really no such thing as "accuracy" in a BB gun. You need to consider a pellet rifle. That bring said, you might be hard-pressed to find a good one (accurate)under $70, but you might find a used one somewhere on the cheap. The higher-end pellet rifles have a rifled barrel- nuff said there. However, you might findfair accuracy in aBB gun using pellets instead. Brands to consider- Gamo, RWS are high-end, but you might find a good Daisy or Crosman.

I have had tons of bbguns from the age of 5 - probably 15 or so. i always loved the crossmans. i don't know what walmart carries these days, and i don't know how far the range is, but many many many neighborhood birds fell to my bb's growing up. they can be pretty accurate, and most had rifled barrels. go check out what walmart has on the shelf. i think my fav was always the crossman 66 powermaster. they also have the 760 pumpmaster. looks like remington also has a bbgun on walmarts website. also with rifled barrel.

shank is right though, but the guns he talks about are more geared towards adult air rifles. they are powerful and accurate, but can also run well over 2-300.

i also recommend getting him started on iron sights, but also getting a small scope so he can learn to use that when its time to get a rifle and go to the deer woods. and most of the bbguns with a small bolt will shoot bb's or pellets. i would stay away from the co2 guns, as a pump gun you can keep the power low at first until he learns to be very safe with it, then start adding more and more until he can handle it better.

for bows, hmm. i would look around craigslist, maybe archerytalk.com and see what you can find used. i'm not sure how big your son is or what he can pull back, so its hard to recommend a bow. mission archery makes a pretty good kids bow, but they are 250ish new.

This is a great pellet gun for distance and accuracy. I bought mine at Walmart in NC about 5 years ago and have killed alot of squirels with it. I might be a little tough for your son to cock it though. It breaks right in front of the stock and it is a one pump deal. The scope that came with mine was junk , used it for a couple months and then you could not adjust the retical so I took it off and have just used iron sights since then.

As for a bow are you looking for compound or recurve. My first bow was and old jennings that I bought at a yard sale for like 20 bucks. And it only had an arrow rest and one fixed steel pin for a sight but man was it fun. Just make sure the limbs are in good shape and have the bow string replaced if worn.

Agree with the Benjamin Sheridan 392/397

He will not be strong enough to pump it. That way you have control over the shots taken. You pump it for him and hand him a pellet. This will allow an opportunity to teach all sorts of rules with enough repetition that it will be habit when older.

Then you can move to the .22 rifles.

Sean I would say that a Crossman 2100 classic( if they still make them) would be more than enough for a 7yo. The benjamin's or sheridan's are pellet only in either .177 or .22 and both of which have a velocity of roughly 800 FPS give or take. They are also over the $70 mark. The 2100 is dirt cheap in comparison, shoots both bb's and pellets, and with a bb has a velocity of like 700 FPS. In my opinion it would be a great beginner gun for him and a grade up from the red rider or daisy's. In a couple of years you could get him a benjamin or better yet a RWS diana both of which are "high class air gun IMO"

They are called "break barrels", and my Gamo Shadow 1000 takes 38# of force to cock, which is about the standard among break barrel rifles. Mine came with a quality BSA 4X22 scope, and has a muzzle velocity of 1000 fps. That puppy will waste a "varmint" with one shot.

The Daisy 499 is probably the most accurate bb gun out there. You can buy one for $100.00
maybe a little more now days.At 5 meters it will put them all in the same hole(using precision ground BB`s)
