I'm planning to rewire the trolling motor wires in my boat. The wires are very old and I want to move the battery. I use a Minn Kota 12 volt system with 1 battery. And, I know there should be a fuse in the system. Anybody know what guage wire to use and what amp fuse? Any recs on what type of fuse I should use or just stay with a simple inline fuse? Thanks for your help.

Most older boats came with 8 gauge wires. The newer ones have 6 gauge. Some 4 gauge! It depends on how many amps your trolling motor can pull. Some trolling motors can get away with 10 gauge. 8 gauge would handle most any "normal" trolling motor.

The correct way is to put a circuit breaker coming off the battery terminal. That way it is protected at the source. I like the manual breakers that have the push button. A automatic will reset and may burn something up. Just my thoughts...
