How much is a 2000 225 Evinrude FICHT worth assuming it is in good shape? The guy says it only has 150 hours on it and runs great. He wants to get a smaller motor because the 225 is just too much motor for his boat. .

I've never messed with one. But from what I have been reading on here, people tend to stay away from those FICHT motors. Not trying to be a downer just giving a heads up. I'm sure some more knowledgeable members will chime in.

thats what i have and i have had it about 5 years not a problem till this year had to get the computer rebuilt and a starter but it runs great now and good on gas i have had people say they love them and some say they hate them but i like mine

I have a 200 same year and it has been problem after problem. I wished I had never gotten that motor. Blew up the power head and that was $7,800.00 to replace. Then the lower unit went out that was $2000.00. Then the fuel pump,...then the lift pump, then the lower unit that I had just replaced went out.... emoDoh I had to do it all over again...yes it was under warranty on that one but the hazzle and shipping. emoMad

That one may be fine but I know of two other people that have them and they are having or have had the same type of issues. emoSorry Jmax

Stay away from the ficht thats what I had before my Merc and the ficht blew to pieces and everyone told me it was worthless to rebuild it. I would shy away from about any early model direct fuel injected motors.

The only reason I asked is because he wants $3500 for it. It cost me almost that much to rebuild the 175 I have.

My opinion. I have had some issues with mine. I have the 2000 200 FICHT. The powerhead popped this year. With the 200 and up folks tend to say that if you get over a 100 hours on them they are fine. Talked with a guy yesterday at Marine Specialty about them. I changed out the powerhead for 1500$ flat. Thats a cheap rebuild and its stuck so far. The lower unit was my fault, I hit a rock. The previous engine had over 500 hours and this one had 465 hours when rebuilt. I would not pay over 2000$ but for that price if it last 5 years you are okay. They say carbon kills them. What I do for that is this. I crimp the oil return line until engine smokes out. Leave it setting until next trip. It will burn it off on restart. Always use XD50 at least. SeaFoam or Chemtool B12 every few tanks of gas. Thats just me. If mine pops again, Im done with Evinrude period no matter what it is. I am looking and considering upgrades already. I just dont have confidence in it yet. Love the way they run and fuel consumption is great and oil. I dont even believe the fuel/oil injection is any worse than Optimax or HPDI but the Bombardier machine practices in these years may have been the issues. If you look around BAssboatcentral, iboats, other forums you will see the results. Cheap temporary replacement, maybe.

If its runs and is in good shape, sounds like it may be alright. I would have a mechanic look at it first though.

Had a 2002 225Ficht. Detonated a cylinder six months out of warranty. Needed a power head and a bunch of other stuff replaced. Cost was going to be over $14,000. Evinrude sold me a 2006 225 E-Tec for $12,500, as part of the E-Tec promotion program. The E-tec blew up six months out of warranty. No help from Evinrude even though it only had 111 hours on it. They offered to sell me the parts for $4,700, I pay the labor and sign a release that they have no responsibility and I can't say anything bad about them. The power head carried a six month warranty. I replaced it with a 2010 E-Tec 200 with a five year factory warranty. Didn't want to spend the additional money to change the controls and switch to a different brand. Would stay away from the Ficht. BRP spent a lot of money trying to fix the OMC problems and couldn't fix them all. The 2000 would be early in that process and still had a lot of issues.

For $3,500.00 that is tempting. If it is one where there has been no problems and you have a good mechanic check it out really well. Check the history on it and make sure it is clean.....well....you might still be throwing money away but that is tempting. emoAngel Jmax

That seems like a great price for that motor, I could give you examples of people who have them and never had an issue. When I lived in Florida one of my best buddies who worked on all types of motors told me all about them as I looked at several boats with them. He claimed if you ran XD100 and seafoam in every tank they would hold up. Probelms came about from running cheap oil and operating in extreme heat conditions, I wouldnt hesitate, IMO if you look hard enough there are examples of all motors having some trouble.

Are you wanting more power or to get away from the ficht you have now????

Power. The 175 is pushing mine up around 65mph under perfect conditions (light load, low gas, empty livewell, no passengers). That 225 ought to add alot more top end.
