Um, what exactly are you referring to? The large vertical bar on the left side of the screen, or the images on the right side of the screen?

I know that this may make you think that I think that you are stupid, but are you 100% certain that you have it off of demo mode? If not, it will just repeat the same image over and over. The reason I ask is because you say that you see it all the time.

While I am not an expert on images or graphs, I would be willing to bet that it's a mess of baitfish that are positioned vertically. If not, then it could possibly be a grass bed, or perhaps a tree. Could be a lot of things, but I am certain that you will get the answer you are looking for.

I am not sure what the vertical line is, it shows up on Davo's graph too. I've only seen them on the color graphs.

It's just a little gremlin that just shows up on graphs of users that don't know what they are looking at. emoBigsmile Happens to me all the time, cause I don't know anything about my color graph except how to read the depth and check the water temp. Now my GPS module isn't responding! emoScratch emoDoh I wish that I could get an expert to go along with me someday and show me how to operate this thang! I follow the directions in my manual, and this thang doesn't do what the book says that it will do. It's the gremlin!emoGeezer

Sometimes the older graphs will do that when there is a dense enough school of baitfish that your DF cant read the bottom. The color is supposed to indicate the density of what it is reading!? emoScratch

Are you fishing vertically below the transom transducer ? If you're ripping a hard bait up and letting it fall you will see the spike if it's below the transducer. I can watch a spinnerbait make the same looking spike on my 522c.

Yellow represents the strongest (hard objects) echo return, red next, and blue is the weakest.

I have a pdf file that does the best job of interpreting color graphs than any other info I have found. I'll be glad to email it to you. Just send me a pm.

Scott, where is this transducer mounted. If its there all the time I would think its picking up something solid off the boat. Example: if its on the trolling motor the transducer could be too close to the fin on the bottom and picking it up. I can watch a jigging spoon I'm using, it shows up as a very thin line bouncing up and down off the bottom. As big as that verticle line is, I dont think its a bait.</p>

DK, my dadgum GPS unit says the module is not responding too. Anybody know what is wrong with it?</p>

Flip, I took the connector off the wire and plugged it in directly and now it seems to be working. Somehow, I probably pulled the wire out a couple of weeks ago and it just wasn't making good connection.

I fished with Scott this weekend so I know what he's asking. We'd be trolling along in 18-25 feet of water and a column that would rise straight up almost to the surface would appear. I kinda thought it was baitfish at the time. The transducer for this unit is mounted astern.

If you have another unit of the same make and frequency running at the same time that might be it. I had 2 Garmins that would do that and now I have 2 color Humminbirds that show wierdness when the both are on at the same time. Just a thought.

You're right flip1up. Looking closer, (with glasses on), it's not a vertically fished bait unless it's a size 15 steel toe boot !!

looks like the double echofrom a rock or stump or a very dense school of bait. is your graph set to auto? if so, take it off auto and turn the gain (or sensitivty) down.

i have seen the graphs on lance's boat do that. I have Garmins on my boat. they did it some in auto mode but not manuel.

Cheez, I was having a problem with interference from my 565 hummingbird and called the factory. I was told that if you are running 2 units at the same time that they can interfere with each other. Now that doesn't make any sense to me, but that was what we were told. I did turn the 2nd one off, and the unit that was giving me garbage, suddenly cleared up, so I don't know.

I would think the verticle line is some kind of echo. Maybe from baitfish or two graphs if you have them with sensitivity turned up. I do know that there is a brushpile on the edge of that break. Looks like some kind of solid piece of structure at the bottom of the break. If you want to tell me where its at I will gladly go double check it for ya! ;)

I was thinking the same thing!emoLaugh

That looks like a Lowrance unit to me not a Humminbird. I do think that the vertically oriented "blob" is bait. The diagonal lines are feeding fish and there are two bottom cover elements, one at the bottom of the drop and one at or near the top. I'm with you FHS, if I saw that on my graph I would fish it for a while and see what's feeding down there.
