Last year a buddy and I went fishing at the nuke. We fished the boils in October and caught lots of cats. We caught several blue cats, but the majority of the cats that we caught were solid white. Is this a special breed or has the nuclear waste turned them white? Anybody know?

Blue cats occasionally (although rare) come in a white color phase, although I've never personally caught one here. Usually the white is just in large patches on the fish. I've fished the same area extensively, including last October, without ever seeing one. Anybody else run across white-colored catfish here?

There is a white catfish which is almost just like a blue but is its own species. According to my books we do not have any here. Not sure what you got but probably had to be some pale blues.

WOW!! That is exactly it! Even the eye color matches. The meat was a little tough but we managed. Just kidding all you cat lovers out there (the furry kind).

I have caught quite a few of the milky white cats but it was in Mississippi and every one I caught was hump backed, but the anal fin was just like a blue so I figured it was a blue. I haven't caught one here in the Chattanooga area though.

Fishinpreacher, look at the hall of fame pics. I have a 54 lb blue that is very light colored, which is common here. Is that more like what you're talking about? We do catch many that are the very light blue at the nuke, as opposed to the darker blue/brownish tint.

Spur caught his cat at the local chineese buffet where it had escaped from the pen in the back.

I have caught catfish that were nearly white, but after riding around in my boat for a while, they took on a pale blue color. I'm positive that they are blue cats.emoGeezer

Hey Rev, I believe the cats you caught at the nuke plant are blue cats but there are white cats, I caught some in a private pond last year and the owner said they were special white cats. He bought the fingerlings from some pond stocking company. These were white white with a slight pink hue to them.

There are white catfish that live in Queen City lake in LaFayette, GA.  It has been years for me being down there but I have seen them there.  They have a name but I can not recall what it is right now.

Okay, well for now we'll call them blue cats...but I've got this feeling that I can hook another one this October. I guess it will have to go down with the story of the loch-ness...I can see it now..."Preacher catches great white cat at the nuke...got away...no pic..." emoTongue
