What lures did you buy this year that were disappointing?

Know Im gonna hack some people off here, but I just struck out w/ the chatterbait-(yes, I got the original). I know this bait is hot for some folks, and I know it is great w/ certain applications, but I have yet to get a strike on it. Oh well, fishing is a constant learning experience.

I'm not disappointed in any of my lures, but my lures on the other hand have been very disappointed in their owner, so lots of them try to commit suicide by running into rocks and stumps. :)

I got some of those Berkley Swimming Power minnows and never had a strike. Then went out and bought some storm swim baits that were a lot cheaper that came with the weight built in and they made up for the berkley. Anyone want to buy a couple packs of berkley power minnows cheap? I believe I paid almost ten for three of them. The storms are $3 for five. Just goes to show you that price does not always mean it will be better. I will say that some of the guys I know have done good with the BPM but not me. emoScratch Jmax

Berkley power minnows bombed out for me too, but I didn't fish them very much. It all goes back to confidence. If you have no confidence in a lure, you won't catch anything with it no matter how hot it has been, but if you do, then you will eventually find a way to get fish to bite it. emoBigsmile

I tried the Kick-tail that was advertised in the TN Fishing Reg to try on stripers. It looked good in the water to me, but the fish must not have thought so. I tried it every time I hit the water, but not even one strike. emoBang

Never caught anything on the Money Minnows or Shad-a-licous swim baits. I live off the Strike King Sexy shads (3/5/6's), but like HL&S mentions, most need to be tuned. I always have a sexy shad lipless tied on. I catch a heck of a lot more fish on my Luckycraft jerkbaits then my Rapalas, enought that I may take a walk on the wild side and look into the RC series...just can't believe the price!

I couldn't buy a bite on the Berkley Swimbaits. But I didnt have a good swimbait bite in general. When I did, it was the Storm or a MattLure, and the MattLure's are just too dang expensive! emoBang I wont flip it unless Im in less than 5 ft of water so I can go fish it out if I get hung

And I also figured out that Im not as good at fishing as I would like to be! emoBigsmile

That must be part of my problem, maybe my lures are just mad at me 'cause lots of times I cast them out and they refuse to come back to me, emoSmile

I tried the Berkley "GULP" shrimp when I went to Panama City Beach this year. They DO catch fish! But the pinfish will peck them off the hook just like they do to a live shrimp, and when a trout, flounder or redfish bites, it tears up easily. You can't use it for multiple fish like you can with a plastic worm. At more than a $1.00 each, not worth it.

Lets see..... The strike king rage tail, shadlicious, king shad, and yum money minnow. I've gotten a few hits on the money minnow and shadlicious but have yet to hook up. I committed to throwing swimbaits this year and didn't have any success with them.

Of all things, I'm shocked that you didn't have success with that "go to" lure. I can say with confidence though that colder weather seems to bring out it's best. Spring.... And I like the Strike King brand better.

One bait that I was disappointed in? Torpedo. After using it since a kid, I've always been slaying bass on top. But for some reason in TN it doesn't produce as it has ALWAYS in NC and MN. Odd....

I would have to say chatterbait as well. They look good but I don't catch anything with them. Last year fishheadspin was goofing off with one and caught two five pounders in a few minutes at weiss and since then neither of us have ever caught a fish on one. I didn't like the power minnows either and I don't buy strike out king lures.
