Per recommendations on this forum, I have now removed the oiler on my Johnson V4 110, 1989 model. I forgot to ask the marine tech who did it what mixture he would recommend. Any ideas?

I run 50:1 in mine but I would check with Johnson or bubbakat. I think its different for different motors, at least the little gauge I have shows several different options.

I run the OMC recommended ratio of 50:1 in my 89 Johnson V4 88 Spl. My friend has a 90 Evinrude 120 with the VRO disconnected and He also runs 50:1.

That works out to a pint to 6 gallons.  I going to take the oiler off very soon myself.  My engine is 12 years old now and I don't want to worry about the engine getting enough oil.  Ever since my rebuild because I let it run out of oil I have been adding an extra 50% to the gas

Mine is an older motor also and I use 50:1 ratio. Stay away from the ethanol gas as it will condensate easily and cause problems with water in your gas.

50 TO 1 in my 110 evinrude/ 1 quart to 12 gallons is the easiest for me, i keep an empty quart bottle and fill it from a gallon jug each time im ready for gas. It seems cheaper for me to buy my oil by the gallon.

50 to 1 in my 97 merc 90hp 3 cyl! I also removed the oil pump drive shaft in mine when the low oil sensor in the on engine oil tank came on and required replacing the tank to correct the problem (this time). I read on a merc fan site the gear on the crankshaft that the pump drive shaft meshes with is a phenolic item and it is just a matter of time before it starts decomposing and getting into bearings. With no friction from the driveshaft gear mesh it should last longer.

I'll be running 50:1 and have purchased one of those oil bottles with the measurements on the side. My tank is only 18 gallons and I don't have a gauge so I tend to keep it fairly full adding 5-10 gallons a gas stop. Thanks for the help.

Those measurement bottles I bought to use for oil turned out to leak around the lid after a couple uses. Makes a mess. An empty 2-stroke bottle with graduated markings on the side doesn't cost anything and doesn't leak after a few uses.

Good point hl&s. I've used all sorts of measuring devices in the past for mixing weedeater, blower and chainsaw fuel. All have eventually turned into a mess except the expensive little premeasured bottles. My current plan is to keep the measuring bottle in a ziplock bag in the boat. I suspect there is an opportunity here for an inventor. There must be a better way!

I to fill some saved pint bottles & refill from a gallon. Really pretty simple. Pour in one bottle pump 6gal.-pour in 2 bottles pump 12gal. I always have to check wallet before adding 3rd or 4th bottle. I only fill these to the 16oz mark on the side of bottle all the way to the top & the last bottle comes up way short.emoWelcome
