what kind of grease to use on steering cables on 96 Mercury 200 efi the are getting a little stiff

I was told to use lithium grease for steering cables; however, if the cables are already stiff, you can plan on replacing the steering cables soon. My boat is a 2002 and I have replaced my steering cables.

The price will very depending on the length. The other day, I helped a friend change his out on a 21' Skeeter. He said he paid $400.00 for his new cables. If you are going to keep the for a while, you may want to check on hydraulic steering. It is like having power steering on your car. If you have a lot of wheel torque at top speed it is worth the extra cost. I am not sure but I believe they run in the $800 to $900 dollar range. Hope this helps. I would shop around for the best price if you change them out.

Try chain & cable libe by Lubriplate, aerosol , spray both ends if possible. This lube will migrigrate the length of cable, use several times at first then monthly for maintinence........... emoGeezer emoUSA
