My buddy who works 7 days a week and never gets to go fishing called me earlier this week and told me he was off all week and wanted to fish. He told me he wanted to catfish, so I obliged, its been a while since I have been... too much bass fishing to do.
The day started off miserable as I got to ramp and realized I had left my wallet that has license and fishing license in it... my house is 25 minutes from the ramp... so i dropped them off and had my buddy's start catching some bream for bait.
Luckily I got back and they had a whole mess.
We initially started drifting live Bream... but after dodging all the boats practicing for the BFL this weekend we decided to hunker down in some of my favorite Flathead holes. The conditions looked decent for Flatties, lots of current and stained water. So we anchored over some log jams adjacent to channel bends. I was working for flatheads and i had my buddy toss of the channel ledge to see if we could get some blues cruising by. About three minutes after he casted out, he had a nice fish on... it ended up being a 9 lb Blue cat on a live Bluegill. I normally put ones that big back, but he really wanted to keep it and have it for supper.
I worked several other Flathead haunts and couldn't coax a bite. I was really hoping to nail a good one today, but it didn't happen.
The water was surprisingly warm, 62 degrees in Flint. Which makes me question my temp gauge... but it was accurate on the air temp, so I don't know.
Has anyone, Polo?, gone out for Flatheads? What are ya'lls doing????
