We had our NATA night tourney on Wheeler last Friday the 18th... and it was ssssllllloooooowwwww.. I ended up with 4 fish weighing a whopping 4 pounds! the bad part is i was 8th place individual with that weight.

with no wind and no current, the bite was tough. my partner had been on fish the week prior, and had several spots for us to catch fish. fish just didn't want to cooperate.

We fished from 530-2am, launching out of Joe Wheeler state park. Not long before dark we were able to pull a couple of keepers off of treetop blowdowns on spinnerbaits. baitfish were everywhere, just nobody busting the surface to eat them.

after dark we went to ott's honeyhole, a shallow cove off the main river. there was grass in there, in about 4 feet of water. we tossed black spinnerbaits and boated several fish in the next couple of hours, a few slicks and 3 keepers. i broke one off and my partner lost a couple of keeper sized fish. only had a little while left after leaving here, and i was able to boat one more keeper on a dark finesse worm, again in a shallow cove.

our hope was that the baitfish would draw the feeding bigmouths shallow into the backs of these coves. the first place we went was a shallow cove with TONS of wood, and nothing.

tough evening of fishing, fun anyway
