Fished from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the local WILDCAT tournament out of Ditto Landing in South Huntsville today. Shortly stated, we didn't do very well. We didn't boat a keeper fish. I have marked up some maps and will post them ASAP. The area we planned on fishing first had a boat already on it, the 250 hp beats my 75 :) That boat won the tournament and big fish, 13 lbs 7 oz (4 Spots, 1 LM), with a 4 lb Spot as Big Fish...

All of THEIR fish (since there were none of mine) were caught on bluff walls with finesse worms on a drop shot and jerkbaits. Other fish were caught in creek mouths with Husky Jerks.

We fished other sets of bluffs, mudlines coming out of creeks, and upstream sides of humps but it yeilded no fish. Fished with Silver Buddies, Ledgebuster SB, Fat Free Shad, and Drop Shots.

Still got a lot to learn in the River section of Wheeler. Put me back in the milfoil and stumps please!

Best of luck everyone!

Sounds as if you had made it to your spot in time that you would have done well, if not won. Several times on the river we have been passed up by a boat with a lot more horses pushing it only to catch up with it in the exact location we were heading to. That Husky Jerk is hard to beat in the late fall on overcast, breezy days.

Bprice, sorry to hear that you had such a tough day. Did you try any of the circled spots on the map? I know that it's hard to try new places when you have a limited amount of time to fish. I think part of the problem too is that many of us, me included, have a very limited comfort level with fishing different techniques and places. Maybe you don't have that problem but I know that I do. I know that I don't feel that good right now about grass and stumps in shallow water. I prefer to fish deeper areas but know that Lg mouths tend to be shallow water fish. I just feel better with a little depth below me.
