I heard talk about another picnik, getogether for the fall, I was just wondering if it is in the planning stage or not. I really enjoyed being at the one we had in the hot weather but this one would surely be nicer because the weather is nice now. I hope we don't have it in cold weather where we have to stand around a fire and talk to each other. Everyone chime in on this one, maybe we can make something happen.

TT does a WONDERFUL job with it too. Such a good time.

There were many though that thought we should see about an spring or fall picnic. Its way too hot in August.

Just a thought TT...whatcha think? Maybe a few weeks after the Crackerfest?

I agree with the date change. If we could do something a little later, maybe a couple weeks after Crackerfest it would be great. The heat is pretty intense, and while we were lucky this year, next year may really be bad. I think the thing that Doc is refering to is the "picking and grinning" jam session that we talked about for the fall. I'd really like to hear some of the CFF crew play and sing. Bon fires, good music, and marshmellows sound great!

SpurHunter - 10/2/2007 11:52 AM Gary, I think there has been two already this year. The first you and I missed, was at Crackerfest maybe in the spring?

What is wrong with another one? Who is counting? This is the best way for everyone on here to get to know each other and share information.

Theres onyl 1 "Official Picnic" held in Aug but whos to say we couldnt get together to and do another.

Wheres TT at?!?!?!

Hmmm .. guess you all are waiting on me to make some suggestions here!

I think we should have 2 planned picnics. The one in May/June, which will continue to be the OFFICIAL ANNUAL picnic, eating fish and keeping things like they are. I'm sure everyone enjoys the format and it all seems to work out so well. Don't fix what ain't broken my dad always says!!! :) Smart fella.

What we should do is add a second event in the fall on the OPPOSITE side of town. Since the official picnic is held in and near Soddy area, the fall one should be held over by Harrison. The fall one can be a menu of bbq and deer meat items as the central dish.

One of the reasons I think this is because some folks from here might not be able to do the drive there and vice versa. We would want to take advantage of DST as much as possible so I suggest the 3rd weekend in October as the date we always try to plan the fall event. Might be a bit late this year if we go ahead and plan something .. but we should pick a date that predicts next years time frame.

If we do one this year I'm thinking the 1st Saturday in November. AND ... location might be Harrison Bay State Park (adult beverage problem though). Any suggestions would be appreciated. No adult beverages are fine for me ... but some of you folks would rather not leave the AB's behind.

If this is going to happen .. let's get some input. I don't have a lot of time to coordinate but am sure we can make it happen. The pickin' party that was discussed in earlier threads sounded like a great idea .. I for one have a problem with the location only because of the distance to haul stuff to and fro. Once they build that toll bridge from Harrison to Soddy it might be different!

For whats its worth, my 2 cents says the first weekend in Nov is terrible, as it is opening weekend of deer season with a muzzleloader, and I think lots of us will be in the woods.

The second weekend is basicaly open, and the third is gun season opener, most all hunters will be there! (in the woods TT)

I do like the grub thoughts though, venison, wild hog, quail, pheasant, rabbit....

I smoke some mean meat!!!

Heck maybe some blackend fish would be bad either!

The 20th is the spot TX at Riverpark, and the 27th-28th is the state-wide youth deer hunt. I dont know how many folks that would eliminate though.

2nd weekend in November sounds good to me. Also ... what about Harrison Bay location???

Doc this year planning one for the end of the month right now wouldn't be very successful. Not enough time to coordinate all that needs to be done unless we just want a small group.

Keep in mind we aren't going to be able to please everyone's idea of perfect date and time and location. We are just trying to make an event accessible and attendable by the majority of the folks.

As for planning, I don't mind doing it .. but if someone wants to take a stab at it I wouldn't be ashamed to say .. HAVE AT IT! :) I can follow as well as I can lead. It's nice to be an accomodating girlie!

anyway .. let's get some feedback here. Location and time frame. Lack of response would indicate to me .. no real interest except a few and we can plan a camping weekend for that!

T, what about Skull island? I dont know anything about it ther as I have never been on it, but wondering about the AB issue?? Or restrooms and such either.

Also, as this thread is several days old, most wont look at it again. I wonder if you start another with your last post, and maybe just include the link to this one for reference. It may be the best way to get interest levels?

TT, Am I missing that Picnic or something. May would be allot cooler but as I recall, the Annual picnic is in late August, the hottest part of the year.

I haven't picked a date yet but the general consensus is to move it up a month or two. At least I haven't heard ANYONE say .. leave it in August.

I'll get a date for it locked in once I find out when Crackerfest is going to be .. unless we don't want to depend on the crackerfest fish feeding the feast. I know last year we had some awfully delicious catfish compliments of several of our regulars!!!

So ... speak up folks. I can't plan anything without some commitments!

Regarding the fall outing .. I just don't know. I'm sure the group will be smaller and the party not as grand. It might be better to go with a group camping experience or something. I tried to organize one last fall or the fall before. Can't remember, at Bear Creek? over by Reliance. But ... lots of talk no commits. That's the problem with this format. It sounds good while you are reading it ... you know you always have a great time when you attend ... but without commitments its hard to plan for a bonefide outting ... especially when you are talking about reservations and $$$ being involved.

TT

One other thought regarding this ... I think we should CONSIDER all CFF activities that provide prize $$$ for rewards should give 10% of the original pot and send it to DHaun to collect for deposits on these activities. There are many generous donaters on CFF .. but it would be nice to have some breathing room and not have to be depent on the same folks over and over for success. I think BPrice did this last year with his txs and maybe someone else. And the FOF's (Feast of the Fishermans) worked well ... but there may be a time some individuals may not be able to continue with those types of activities. I know that Camp Columbus costs us about $150.00 for the picnic reservation and security alone.

That doesn't include other expenses that are incurred. I'm just trying to find ways to solidify the route all this takes. Collectively we all enjoy the benefit of this gathering so lets not let it fall by the wayside for lack of enthusiasm in the "off" season. :)
