Yesterday had a barge, two wide, come around the corner and blow its horn at me to move. So i picked up and moved to the shoreline waiting for him to pass. When he got closer i noticed he was awfully close to me, i'd say about 20 yards! I was in 5 foot of water, so i couldnt go much shallower. As he passed, i saw the first two barges were covered, and it looked like they were having a party of sorts. I would guess to be about 150 people on board. This captain just about screwed up, he came REAL close to hitting some rocks, AND running me over! Heres a pic after he tried to correct his mistake. It would not have been pretty me trying to rescue 100 or so people in my little flat bottom lol. To beat it all, he never slowed down a bit.

I'm gonna make one educated guess here. Every year just prior to or after riverbend TVA supplies a barge to the River Gorge Trust for a fund raiser cruise. It is like a $100 bucks a head and they typically run from down river up to Ross's landing in the evening. The layout is a tug pushing two covered "party barges". Does that sound about right? I believe these are special barges used just for this type of gathering and therefore the captain doesn't run the same stretch of river all the time. This might explain his poor navigation of a tough stretch of the TN river. Glad you didn't need the extra heavy tackle.

Thats the boat allright.

File a report with the Coast Guard and include the pic.... I can assure you he won't do it again in anything other than an ice cream truck
