Saved up for a year and took the wife out west for a couple of weeks to visit Yellowstone ( The Clampett's go to Yellowstone ). Flew in to Boseman, rented a SUV and drove to Island Park, Idaho about 30 miles out of West Yellowstone. We got to go in the Park one day and then the gates closed, felt like that Grizwald man in that movie. I Was pretty pissed about the situation then we decided to not let the Pissing Match going on in our government ruin our vacation. We got a map of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho and plotted out our course. Saw some of the most breath taking scenery one can imagine, saw two Grizley, Big Bull Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Big horn sheep, Whitetail and some smaller critters. Drove to Cody ( since the Park was closed we had to Drive 350 mile around the park) and finally got to go the Museum, I felt like I died and went to heaven, for all who hadn't seen this you need to add it to your Bucket list.
On the shutdown, I talked to a couple of Rangers who told me it was like a paid Vacation to them so the people who are suffering are the taxpayers like the Hotels, Restaurants, gift shops etc. I can't for the life of me figure this one out. Well post some pics when I get them all loaded.

Its a blast out there, I gun hunted elk in Utah and Idaho and killed elk but the funest trip I had was when I bow hunted elk during the rut, them things are like a 700 pd turkey running at you, didn kill with a bow but had a blast, aint been in couple years, best area I hunted was loaded up with outfitters last time I went, walked three hours up hill in the dark and hunted all day then met ride at road at end of day, exhausting but lots of fun.

Here is a few pics. See if you can see something laying down in the second photo across the River?

truly is God`s country.....I spent 3 days crisscrossing Yellowstone and ended up in Jackson Hole after going thru The Grand Tetons. You had the right idea...I won`t go back till I have 2 weeks to spend there. Considering spending a summer season there working for Park Service after retirement just to finance the time spent there.
It is a phenomenal place.

Man! That's Awsome peck. I've always wanted to see Yellowstone, and those are some good pics too!

The wife and I spent a week out there. It is awesome to say the least. This was before I had my passport to go see her at her house in Alberta. Now that's another great place and its even better having family to stay with during huntin season there.
