Spent nearly five hours in the stand today starting at 12:30 PM. Right around 5 PM, I started hearing some movement in some thick cover to my right. Got my gun ready when a coyote ran out into the open and circled back into the thick stuff. It got quiet for a moment and then a rabbit came bolting out of the brush with the coyote hot on his trail. The coyote made the mistake of slowing down about 20 yds right in front of me. Not the deer I was looking for but it got my heart thumping!!! First coyote for me!!! I have seen them turkey hunting before but never had the chance to kill one.

because they are the leading predator for white-tails

Great kill bud! You ought to get it mounted! I've seen some awesome Yote mounts, and they all send chills down your spine!!

Good job! Those dogs are trouble! They are a non-native species that has migrated from the Western U.S. They can really put a hurting on small game animals like rabbits and quail. They are also responsible for declines in grouse and fox populations. Shoot everyone you can. I shoot one every time I can...got one saturday. Like G.L. said, the deer and turkey thank you!

I don't care either way, and do realize that the coyotes are a bit out of control ( that would be our fault as humans) but I can't imagine with as many dear as we have that they would be a problem eating them. We are way over populated by dear ( don't know about coyotes). Like I said I don't care either way, just wondering how they would negatively impact the deer population.
