RE: Who makes deck extensions?

Why would I post a question about a deck extension for a house on a "Boating Qustions and Answer" board? That's what "Off Topic Discussions" are for. emoSmile

Pointer I have made two on other boats of mine. I used indoor/outdoor carpet and marine wood. Took the measurements and fit it to the boat. Worked great the whole time I had them. Too poor to do it any other way back then.emoCool Jmax

Found a few on Ebay, mostly for Rangers. Couldn't locate an "after market" builder/supplier. Have you priced one from the manufacturer ? Probably pretty high.

Ran across this snippet on DIY,

I built one for my R82 and one for another guys 519. I used 3/4 inch marine grade plywood doubled, glued, and screwed together then cut to fit between your rod lockers. If you want an exact flush mount, add carpet to the top and sides. Please note if you are going to carpet, you will need to cut the plywood a little short in order to accomodate the extra space needed for the carpet. Usa a piece of scrape carpet on the front and sides as a guide. Be sure to use 1 1/4 inch wood screws and spaces them about 3 inches apart all around the perimeter and down the middle once you have the plywood cut to the right size. This ensures that the plywood will not seperate due to the elements. If you carpet, glue the carpet in place with 3M exterior carpet glue on the top and sides. Use staples on the sides to hold the carpet in place until the glue dries. Total cost about $75 plus your time. Takes about 1 days time spread across 2 days (need time for glue to dry).

I have made a couple of boat decks using treated plywood instead of marine, a lot cheaper. You can use aluminum angles to attach the deck to your boat. Try to use stainless steel fastners if possible, if you use galvanizes they will start deteriating in a few years. The post above mentioned using indoor/outdoor carpeting, it is pretty good but it is not hook proof like boat carpeting.

I tell ya guys. I've got no talent for this. I need a craftsman to do it. I've heard of places that make deck extensions. Most were made of wood and worked great.

I don't know of anyone who actually does the work but I know there is a fiberglass place on Hixon pike who will do just about anything to a boat, they may be able to handle what you want, I don't know the name of the place but it was on the left close to where you turn off to CFSP, going north.

Two suggestions Jerry: I once saw a post on BFHP that listed a link w/ very detailed instructions for building them. If you did a search on there you might find the info. You could also drop Flippin*1 a PM since he's pretty handy with things of that sort.
