Fished Chick again today from just after 6am to noon. Day started beautifully but when I pulled into the cove I was gonna fish there were over 40 boats, literally (I counted), there were even 2 rows of 15 tied together. No bother, started catching some right away on a LC Sammy but only one was decent sized. Went back to trying some new humps and deep water areas. I was slinging a DD22 for about 100 yards and started to lose confidence in it when there was a nice weight on the line, I set the hook and about that time a nice 4-5 lber jumped and flung the DD22 back at me. Drat. I even had upgraded hooks. Shortly after I caught a dink on the same lure. Went and hit some creek channels and caught a few more small ones and then a 3lber and 2lber, all on a C-rig. It started to get really hot and everyone who owns a boat was on the water so I called it quits.

Sounds like a decent morning. I can stand the heat, but all the boats are hard to deal with. Looks like it is about time to switch to night fishing.

emoUpsmile You had the same thing in mind I did JTF. I usually start night fishing in May and stay till Nov. It's nice not to be bombarded with run abouts and jet ski's. Maybe its time to get ready for the June 24 CFF tourny! WOOHOO!!! Night time is the right time!emoThumbsup

You will like them, I would just upgrade the hooks. Apparently my upgrades weren't that good:( . I need to find some like come on Lucky Crafts, those hooks are awesome.

I`VE GOT A FRIEND THAT DRILLS HOLES IN THE FRONT OF HIS DD22 AND 30+ AND PUTS ENOUGH SPLIT SHOT IN THEM TILL THEY JUST BARELY SINK...THEN GLUES `EM UP AND RETOUCHES THE PAINT......MAKES THE CRANKING MUCH EASIER AND GETS EM DOWN

I've got one but only have thrown it maybe once. Its the Lavender Shad pattern. What kind of hooks did you upgrade too? I have a lucky craft slender pointer and man those hooks are like razor blades. I picked it up the other day and caught the hook just barely and it brought blood! I believe they are made by Daichi.

I think that they were just Eagle Claws, but I just ordered some #2 VMC's in blood red. We'll see how they do.

Davo, when I hook a fish with the DD's I stick my rod as far in the water as I can. If I have one that like to jump. I may get my elbows wet. If they try and come uphard put the rod as low as you can and reel hard and try to ski them towards the boat. Those baits are easy to throw because they are soo heavy, but they work well!

Yeah, I'm a big fan of sticking my rod deep, that fish didn't feel nearly as big as it was. Actually it just felt like I had snagged a leaf at first, just that dead weight. The next guy didn't stand a chance as I set the hook a couple of times, hard, and he was only about a pound.

What hooks do you upgrade with Churly?

heck I cant remeber if they are VMC or Mustad but they are the ones that are endorsed by David Fritts. One of the trebles has a longer wide gapped hook that looks like a worm hook. I still havee the pack of hooks at home i will let you know the exact name and size when i get home this evening. But I found them on sale at Dicks in a 4-pack for about 4 bucks a few weeks ago. I dont care what kind of hooks you put on DD's you will still have a few fish toss 'em. Thats Why I like to throw one hooked baits on the hump first before throwing a CB. Like a c-rig or deep jig, or deep SB. My philosophy is to see if i can get the fish to bite a single hooked bait before chancing it with a DD.

I hear ya on the 1 hook baits, never lose a fish on them. I know what hooks you are talking about, the Sure set. I just ordered a bunch of VMC's and will be giving them a try.
