Went to the G to prefish today with stump jumper. We ran into Davo and Churly as well as Madd Dog and his buddy. Was nice to see some of the CFF gang.;)

SJ and I went to one of my secret holes to start with and didn't so much as get a look until we had been there well over an hour. Than had a nice hit on a spook but it missed it and did not come back. Between fighting the wind and the grass we finally gave it up after about three hours. Headed back into ML and started fishing traps. Had two get on and both got off. Finally got one in the boat but it was short. SJ also got a short one, all on traps. Went out into the creek and started fishing worms and I got a hard hit. Slammed back the rod to set the hook and the reel came off the handle and screwed up my hook set.emoBang I was really starting to feel snake bit. Finally SJ slammed one home and he got in, our first keeper. We tried there a while longer but did not get a thing more. Moved two more times and nothing. Finally about 1:00 we moved to a stump field and on the first cast I had a nice one just over three inhale the trap. We fished traps and lipless cranks for the next two hours and managed several more fish and managed to boat four more keepers that would have only gone about 11 and a half lbs. along with SJ first keeper.:( Not much in size for the G but we did enjoy it and had some good laughs. I know Davo nd Churly did not fair well but Madd Dog got on some good ones. I will leave it at that since he said he was going to post and with pictures. SJ and I caught our fish on a variety of lures, a red shad worm, a red trap, a royal blue trap, and an excaliber chartruse lipless crank. All our bass came from 2 to 6 feet in depth. We missed and lost several others today so we had the same problems a lot of folks are complaining about and that is they seem to be just slapping at the bait. I am looking forward to next week.emoCool Jmax

I had a great time at the G today with the legend Jmax! I was thrilled that he asked me to go since I've been wanting to get down that way and haven't made the trip. It's a great lake and I hate that I will miss the CFF Tx down there next weekend but I'll try to make it later this summer. It was also nice seeing Davo and meeting Churly, which was long time overdue. emoToast

The wind was tough today at times but we still managed to cover quite a bit of water. Thanks again for the invite Jmax and I look forward to going again. I promise I won't tell anyone where we caught that 6 pounder...why did you leave that out by the way? ;)

You'll get em next week jmax. Nice to see you again. I wondered if you had a secret hole since you left with out me getting to follow you lol. I probably won't catch a fish next week since I used up all my first time luck.

That has got to be one of the most original excuses that I have ever heard.... Duh???  I thought a pro like you would check out things like that.... Next you will tell us that the dog chewed the handle off the rods...holy cow... glad you had a good time...FA</font>

Sounds like fun Jmax. Did you guys get a water temp down there? It seems to me that the fish down there are much closer to the spawn than the fish up here. If you have a temp let us know if you would.

Whats up with all these reports from the Big "G" and no temp readings?

I'm with you polo.. I think they are moving up a lot quicker down there and getting ready. This cold front moving thru may slow them a bit but maybe not. It is lookingt fairly good in the long range forcast. Maybe a little warm, weather this week and a little rain to dingy the backs of the creeks and then LOOK OUT!!!! Things could be really hot down there by Sat.

I'm surprised your "secret hole" didnt produce, if its the one I think it was. Good catch though, its always good to get a limit. emoCool

It was flip and so am I. We tried to force feed them and even stayed longer then we should have. The water was down at least a foot or two from last year and the grass is thick in there. You cannot fish a trap due to too much grass. Just not the same as years pastemoConfused They may move in there or may have even been in there but you could not prove it by us. I may be in the ML with most everyone else next week trying for the five big bites we all want.emoCool Jmax
