got my boat out for the first time this year today as well. great day but toward the end of the day i lost power to trolling motor. the fuse holder melted in half. the wire gauge steps down to a smaller size at holder, could this be the problem. never happened before but bought new and bigger battery than last year.

More than likely a bad connection at the battery or fuse causing it to overheat and melt. The size of the batteries doesn't matter as the trolling motor will on use only what it needs and nothing more. So if the battery has 900 CCA and the trolling motor uses 20 amps. It will only pull 20 amps unless there is a problem. The reason you will have a 25amp fuse or breaker protecting a 20amp motor is start up. It take more amps to start the motor than it does to continue the motion. Hope this helps.

it had a 20amp in when i bought it last year. I did't change it when i changed the battery. but to what wrechin2 was saying , i lost power earlier in the day, i cleaned the battery post and everything worked fine. but the battery is new and post are totally clean. thanks everyone

I had issues with my wiring Sat when I went out my self .. hooked the battery straight to TM and worked .. now I gotta track down the gremlins :( its always something
