Ok... Looking to get some reasonably serious tools for the boy for Christmas. We have a Lowes account and hopefully we can find what we need there. I'm looking at a decent box and tool that would cover working on vehicles (4wd) and boats.

1. Looking for any wisdom here possible.
2. Not looking for used sets.

Thanks.

My wife picked me up a set online from them on thanksgiving last year. It's the kobalt set that is normally $200. They had it on sale for a $100. It needed a few more wrenches, but other than that I've found it pretty handy. It comes with a portable toolbox.

You can get a set of Kobalt with Standard and Metric 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive sockets, open/box end wrenches, multi -tip screwdriver with a case for under $100. Great kit to build from......

i got mine from home depot. it is the husky brand and i have never had one tool broke. but even if it did then they carry the same warranty as craftsman (they will replace it if it is broke).

IMO Craftsman tools are the best for the money and they are guarantees forever. Should one break you just take it to Sears and get a replacement free.

Go to your local sears hometown store (you are supporting local business this way, they are privately owned) and buy him a 245 or so piece set. It had EVERYTHING needed for that stuff. Metric, standard, 6point, 12point, the whole kit and kaboodle.

The craftsman guarantee is hard to beat. When I got out of the military service in 1966, I bought a starter set of tools from Sears. Twenty seven years later, the 3/8" ratchet failed. Took the ratchet in and they replaced it with a new one, no questions asked and completely hassle free. Now that's a guarantee!

Did some of you guys miss the Lowes account part of his post?
I personally am stocked up om Craftsman and have never had a problem, but I do have some Kobalts and have been real happy with them, The grips on their plier set are real comfortable and grip real ewll and clean up easily
