Made a hardcore effort at crappie in Wolftever today. Hit the water early to "scout." That was a waste. Susan and Bob Gray joined me in the afternoon. Bob is a recently retired Park Ranger from West Virginia but Susan's roots are on Signal Mountain and they're moving back here soon. Bob wanted to start learning the water. I showed him plenty of water, but not many fish. emoBang Based on sm7mag's report, I need to head for Hiwassee! We fished hard... caught a handful of short fish and only 2 keeper crappie. Got one good bonus largemouth and another bonus smallmouth about 16-inches. Of course he's back swimming. However the wax worms and wintertime bluegill saved the day. Bob headed home with the 2 crappie, a bass and 25 bluegill to feed the family. As Pointer mentioned, early on the wind was too bad to fish the bay effectively. We stayed back in the creek. We only caught one crappie trolling... the rest came off of trees 10 to 15 feet deep. There are better days ahead! emoGeezer

Good job Richard. Hope they get to enjoy those fish. Sounds like your getting to be a proficient winter fisherman...  Maybe they can come back and you can get them on better fish in the warmer weather.. Have to hand it to them.. They are hardy souls for going out there today!

It was a tough day out there for the couple I hours I went today...I got skunked myself...Good job! emoThumbsup

But I had a great time with TnDoe - we saw RSimms, Whistler, and BassBullet on the water today!

rsimms, it seems to me that most of the fish that I've marked while running the last few weeks have been at or near the creek mouth at WT. Back in the creek I mark very little bait and other fish activity. That may not always be the best way to check things out but I think that when the fish are back in the creek that I see them when I run over the flats.

Thanks... let me know when that happens. Seems like it should have by now. Somethings "feels" diiferent about this year. Maybe exceedingly warm weather from Xmas to a week ago slowed things down? What do you think?
