I had trouble finding Crappie today, but after 3 hours, I located them....3-5 feet deep. They were very shallow today, but Ionly caught 6. I'm a beginner Crappie fisherman (i mainly fish for Bass + Bluegill), i've only been fishing for Crappie about 4 weeks now, but i'm finally gettin' tha hang of it! If anyone has some pointers, let me know please. Happy Fishin.

Welcome to CFF Nightrider. Where do you fish from the bank?

I see you are getting the hang of it there Bassman1974. Slow it down and fish a little tighter in on the brush in 3' to 6'. Slip float with a small jig or grub just above the brush. Float a minnow mid-depth along side the brush and in tight under wood docks. When you find them stacked up you will get your reward. When you find the Crappie, a fun way to catch them is to use a long rod like a flyrod or one of those Crappie poles. Use 4' to 6' of leader and a small jig. Jig it up and down in the brush and tree tops. You can catch some real slabs that fun way to fish. I am ready to see a 15 slab report from you.

When the fish go that shallow, I like to peg a tiny pear shaped floater about 18" to 2' deep and fish tubes. Pink/white and hot orange/chartreuse are good colors to try. Actually, any color will do at this time of the year. My brother-in-law sets his floater about 18" and throws onto the bank and eases it back into the water and claims that the crappie hit it as soon as it enters the water. I have never tried this technique. He swears by it, so it might work for you too. The next full moon is about 1 week away and if the weather stays warm, people who intend to catch crappie had better be on the water then. I have seen years when the crappie that I target actually spawn during the final week in March and are long gone by the time that April rolls around. Other areas of the lake of course will still have a lot of spawners too.

Hey nightrider...bet I've been on the bank with you at WT Creek over the past few weeks...now that I'm back on the water again, maybe I'll loan you my back seat for some bassin' one day!
