After a suggestion from wrechin2, I changed the sparkplugs on my boat. I took the ol girl to Possum Creek today, unloaded her, started like a charm and hit the gas. WOW, I gotta new boat!!!! She came out of the hole and about threw me out of the seat! I'm new to the forum, but thank you for the tip. emoBigsmile .

LOL!!!!I told you I have replaced many many with plugs. I got tired of making trips to the lake to find the customer had replaced the plug and repaired it. Glad to hear was a cheap repair!!!!!!!

If you are losing spark on 1 cylinder, then it is not the issue. We need to verify it is sparking on all 4. You can put a setin. It won't hurt. But you described a different senero. His was a weak hole shot. You describe a strong hole shot then a surge and it was losing spark on #3.

James,

My 115 Merc hesitates/ pauseson the hole shot, then planesOK. You think that might be the plugs too? I already ran two cans of Sea Foam through it with no change. I haven't considered the plugs because the dealer was supposed to change them before I picked up the boat 5 weeks ago.

I want to thank you too for all the "free" advice you give on here! I'm sure you're saving CFFers thousands of dollars in repair costs.emoApplause

Plugs are good start to a poor hole shot. I have seen them do alot of weird things. The hardest thing for a boat to do is come out of the hole. If the boat didn't do this before it could be the plugs. It could also be the prop. Did you get the boat recently??? Differnent stye props come out differently. I used to have a 115 inline 6 on 16' hydrasport. I ran a balistic 21P stainless prop. When you would open it up it would take 2-3 seconds then come up out of the hole. I would put my brother's 19P quicksiler stainless and the boat was alot more responsive and was a instant hole shot. It ran the same top speeds but the rpm's were different. It may need another prop or the current prop may need a little tweaking, if is a healthy engine. just my thoughts....

Yes, I bought a 2004 Triton Tr175 (17.5') 5 weeks ago. It has a Mercury Laser II SS 3-blade prop on it. It's not that it's sluggish to plane, if I punch the hot foot, there is a momentary pause like it's not getting fuel, then it kicks in and gets on plane fast. It's similar to an older vehicle that has a bad accelerator pump (as I've been told). You punch the gas, it hesitates, then kicks in about a second later.

Sounds like a normal condition. It takes a second to spool up. It may be the props design. I have taken many boats to the lake with multiple props and each one will have different hole shot, midrange, and top end, Ask ditchdoc....We have tried about 12 different props on his and his original prop comes out the best and run best top end. This was a rare case though. Not many people have the luck of having the right prop from the get go. Some of the props stuggled to come out even being smaller pitches. Hope this helps
