Fished most of Saturday with no problems. As we were leaving an area, my motor didn't sound right. It was idling at a much higher rpm. When I put it in gear, it really slammed in there. It ranthat way for the rest of the day.Any ideas?

Linkage came loose???? Do you have a hot foot? In the picture you see theBLUE line I have drawn, DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE BLACK ARROW. You will find this arm on the "Passenger" side of the engine.Make sure that the plasic piece is touching the block. If it is, then I would have to look at it and verify things such as pick up timing. Don't run it like that or you will have a lower out and what ever problem is causing the high idle.

This motor is a fastrike look on top of motor remove the three screws that hold plastic cover down and look at the spring that pulls the eet sensor back sounds like it may have broke this would cause this same problem .if your standing behind motor the spring will run from the eet sensor bracket to the left side of flywheel cover plate

DUH!!! Thought this was a 150 Merc! I talk to too many people. I was thinking you were someone else. Should have looked at the signature! Good catch James

Spring may have broken off the optical sensor return as stated before, hot foot sticking (if so equpped), or I had a ficht the other day that was setting TPI codes and the cable had popped out of the holder and was holding the throttle open. It is REALLY important that you set the stop on a hot foot to protect the engine linkages.

james he says he has a r 80 ranger with a fastrike. the spring is more than likely the cause if it is a ficht it can be a throttle linkage problem but they will . usually set a code of either above or below expected range on the tps . on fichts the fuel lift pump can get a hole in the diaghram and cause fuel to enter into intake and the motor will run away. okay back to fastrike like you said if it has a hot foot could be a sticking cable has he tried pulling back on hot foot to see if it will idle back down

James,

I know it is a 60* carb after looking at his signature. I was just making mention of another possibility of the cable coming out of the holder and holding the throttle open because I had a ficht that the ball on the cable had popped out of the holder and was setting TPI codes for out of range and was at 1.8V instead of .2~.3 range. The carb uses the same cable holder. On a carb engine it would hold the throttle open. Plus the Ficht has a fixed "Crank" sensor and does not have a return spring. Timing is controlled by the EMM.

With no hot foot Common possibilities...

1) Optical sensor return spring is broken

2) Cable issue...ball broken/ poped out/ or retainer has loosened holding throttle open.

3) Bad power packs staying in quick start keeping the timing advanced.

4) Linkage on one of the lower carb throttle bodies has came loose and sticking open

5) Control box issues

Like I said these would be "common" could be a odd one as well emoToast
