We went on my new used bass boat this AM and caught nothing! Well it was hot hot out thereemoHoppingmad emoHoppingmad Ughh! Got there and trolling motor worked for like 3 mins and crapped out on me!emoBang That was a prob with our fishing! The good news is that our gas motor runs great! Starts right up! I need to get my TM working correctly.:( NO fish at all though!

Might be the breakers in the back where the battery hook-ups are. They have a tiny reset button. If they keep doing it, you will need to replace them.

if the trolling motor is the only thing giving you trouble from your new/used boat, cosider yourself lucky young man!

No kidding Churly, I got my boat and nothing worked. I had to rewire for lights, depthfinders, and trolling Motor. Also had to rework fuel lines and filter.

I guess I am lucky!emoCool The boat was great today, the gas motor just cranks up when you turn the key, and all the lights work! Just need to take it in for a little work on the trolling motor. IT WAS ALMOST A PERFECT BOAT!!The TMemoDoh Couldn't troll anywhere today and had to use paddles or the gas motor whick made to much noise and probably scared fish off. By the way we had a few bites in deep water on jigs and countdowns.

Hey I feel your pain, Crazy. My best fishin' buddy/stepson went up to Nickajack Saturday and had the same problem. I'm 99% sure I need a new battery. But, it sucks to drive all the way to the lake, put in, run several miles only to discover that you're not gonna have any boat control. We did put a bass a piece in the boat before it ran down though. Stepson on a Sonic Toad, me on white buzz bait. We messed around for a couple of hours, but the thrill was gone. We were on the road home by 10am. I saw your post the day you got the boat, by the way, and was very happy to hear you finally got one. Hope you get that problem fixed.

Yup, the trolling motor is the only trouble.... so far.emoRolleyes

Give some folks some specific details on what happened and maybe somebody can diagnose.

Did it work strong for a short while and then stop suddenly... or did it seem to wear down gradually? Is it a foot control (bad switch??). In many cases it's something real simple (like circuit resets mentioned earlier).

Well, it wouldn't work for a while, then I wiggled a wire around at the front connected to the TM, it started to work and worked well. Then I get out there on the lake to the dock, just stops, and I tried to wiggle that wire back into position, but doesn't work. The batteries are charged and everything. Have no clue whats wrongemoBang

Based upon the "wiggling wire" it sounds to me like just that... you've got a broken or corroded connection. Sounds like it shouldn't be hard to fix... just need to access the area where that "wiggling wire" leads to.

If someone on here is famaliar with electronics and is willing to help that would be a good idea. It isnt a big deal to do, and is common with older boats.

We got my trolling motor to work! The problem was that the fuses were busted and we had to go buy some more and then we put them in and conected them to the battery, and wires. Turned the TM on and it worked! My boat is perfect now! Everything works on it!emoParty

Kevin, that is goooooddd news to hear... I thought it was something simple and now I hope you catch a bunch..... FA says heyemoGeezer emoGeezer

It would be a good idea to put together a small toolbox with some tools such as philips head screwdriver, a flathead, pliers, adjustable wrench, etc etc, duct tape, WD-40. A lot of days on the water can be ruined with small problems that can be fixed on the water. You will learn as you go to become quite a troubleshooter, and you can always ask here of course.

oh and also, put together a first aid kit, including aspirin, sunscreen, eye drops, toilet paper....you would be surprised how much it is appreciated when you need it.

New or used, a boat is a hole in the water that you pour money into.emoSmile
Wouldn't be without one though. It's just a fact of life for the boat owner.
