I'm looking for a rim fire rifle for general target shooting and rabbit/squirrel. Prefer a bolt action and wooden stock but noting is out of the question. Just finished checking out the Rugers at Sportsman's and was impressed but thought id ask here as well. Im new to shooting/hunting and have some new access to land so would like to gear up. If anyone is tired of hunting for ammo and wants to dump off a gun this is your chance emoSmile

went up to Benton's Sporting Clays today had a blast! shooting is fun, if I don't watch out, I may be putting the rod down more and picking the gun up more often!

a 17 hmr will destroy a squirrel they r not good guns 2 shoot tree rats with havent shot any rabbits with it may be bad on them good luck

17 is a nasty little round for sure but they are fun to shoot. If I were you and can find ammo I'd buy a ruger 10/22 and build it. There is a ton of accessories for that rifle and they are addictive to customize once you start.

The more i read the more interested i get in the Ruger. Where is a good place to look for custom gun parts like stocks?

I have heard the same thing about the 17 cal but i agree that they are fun to shoot...a lot more range than the 22s i have shot. not much experience with the 22mag yet.

Check out....Chattanooga Gun Traders. They usually have something your looking for.

I hunt squirrels with my 17. we make a deal that you can not shoot at anything less than 100 yards. put some sport into it. it is a fun gun to shoot.
