Anyone have a sheet of alluminum about 4'x6' that they would be able to part with? LLoking for about 1/4" thick. Iam going to use it to make a floor in my alluminum boat. I have 3/4" marine wood covered in marine carpet but the wood adds a ton of extra weight and I think the Alluminum would be much lighter

You don't need anything that heavy for a floor in an aluminum boat, put styrafoam between the ribs up to the tops of the ribs then cover with something around 16 ga, pop rivet the floor to the aluminum ribs then you can add carpet to the whole floor. I have covered quite a few boat floors over the years and this is how I did mine, this serves two purposes, flotation and support for the floor.

Thanks doc for the suggestion Though I am wanting some thing that can be easily removed. It is my father in laws boat, so if he doesn't want it, i want it to be removed. I will likely still put syro blocks between the ribbs for some extra support though

If you can, make an occasional stop by the "Steel Store" on Chestnut Street. The Steel Store is Siskin's outlet store for 2nd's so the inventory changes daily.

A friend of mine picked p a 4X8X1/4 alumininum checkerplate for $120.00 last month. It was badly stained but that can be corrected easily.

Use some Polyisocyanurate sheathing (blue foam from hardware store) on top of the ribs. Carpet on top of the foam with a wooden frame around the outer edge (on top of the carpet), leave about 1" gap to sides of boat. Make 2 or 3 sections depending on your boat size. This will give you the floor you want, but is easily removable. It also makes clean-up with the leaves and such easy, as you just lift and shake everything out. To make it more deluxe, add a second piece of carpet that goes over the wooden frame and tucks into the gap.
