Okay it has been a long time since I've been on CFF. I use to be here all the time and then sold my boat. Now I'm back in the market and got the fishing bug bad! But I learned some things from having the boat last time, so I'm going to be specific on what I'm looking for. So if you guys can help me out in the search, I'd sure appreciate it.
I'm looking for a 17 to 18 foot boat. Aluminum or fiberglass. The kicker here is going to be the age and price. I am kind of on a budget but I learned a valuable lesson last time in purchasing a boat over 10 yrs old. So this time around I will not be doing that. I'm looking for a boat newer than a 2000 model. I don't want a 4 stroke motor. I actually want a 2 stroke. I'm ideally looking for a 17 footer with a 90 or 115 on the back of it.
Now cosmetically, I don't mind some scratches or some weathering. As long as she floats and don't leak I can handle it. No rotten transoms! And I would like a compression check done on the engine to make sure she's alright. This is where I'm actually preferring the aluminum part, because of my applications. I deer hunt the islands and bow fish too, so carpet some times is a bad thing when you mix lots of slime and blood into the mix. I'm also going to be gearing up mostly for crappie fishing and occasional bass fishing. I don't really care about the electronics in the boat. I will be upgrading that later on.
Okay now for the kicker. How much am I willing to pay for such a rig? Well I've been doing some pricing around and such and I kinda know what the new boats are going to cost a man to walk off the lots with. You can find what I'm looking for brand new 2010 models for around $10 - $14k after tax.
So used, I've got a ball park range of around $5k to $8k. Let me know if you guys have something or know of something out there.
