Looking at the new G series reels. Trying to decide between the G5 and G6. The only difference seems to be the gear ratio. G5 = 5.5; G6 = 6.5. Any advice, pros/cons and the best place to buy would be appreciated.

emoThanks

5:5 ratio is generally used for large crankbaits and slow rolling large spinnerbaits. The 6:5 is a faster reel, generally used when you have to take up slack quickly while throwing a jig or a plastic worm. Good choice for lipless crankbaits too. The 6:5 will be a more versatile reel. When the E 7's went on sale, I loaded up on'em. Won't have to buy a reel for years. The few opinions I've read about the G seriesare not favorable.

What do use want to use this reel for specifically? I assume Bass fishing? Cranking big deep cranks, I would prefer the 5.5. For spinner baits, jigs, worming, top waters etc. the 6.5 to pick up line faster. I use Curados, both E 5's and E 7's also Citicas that are a little less money and are 6.2 ratio.

I still got a couple of the E series left that i can sale you.
As with pointer, i have heard the old ones are the way to go.
