I joined family and friends for a great trip out west to the Medicine Bow Lodge and National Forest in South West Wyoming. The weather was fantastic with temps in the mid 60's and 70's during the day and mid 40's at night.

During our many rides and adventuresthrough the forest, we were treated to sightings of moose, elk, mule deer, coyote, fox, and even a few white tails.(not small children running amok) We flew into Denver and drove up through Ft. Collins, Coloradoto the Medicine Bow Lodge off Hwy 130 just south east of Saratoga, Wyoming. The drives to and from the lodge were like separate vacations as each turn in the road brought us new vistas and changes in topography.(and lots of antelope)

The foodat the lodge was fantastic with many satisfying meals and desserts( Wyoming mud pie was my favorite). The wranglers/guides were very knowledgeable and provided many hours of enjoyment for our entire group. The lodge, cabins, and surrounding buildings, though simple, were filled with pictures and mementos from the proud history of the Medicine Bow area. One story in particular involved Teddy Roosevelt spending time at the lodge during his presidency. The lodge is sitting in a valley at 8500 ft. and is surrounded with peaks that reach upwards of 10,000 ft.

If you are looking for a great adventure, for any season, check out the Medicine Bow Lodge.

They offer horseback trail rides and pack trips weather permitting and make a great home base for snowmobiling, snow-shoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Beautiful area. I used to stomp around there when we lived in Colorado. If you get out there again and like to trout fish try the Miracle Mile on the N. Platte River.

I love Wyoming! My uncle lives in Riverton and I love to go out ther and catch the native cuttroats and brookies. Those are some beautiful pics! Thanks for sharin!

Carl, thanks for the post and the pictures...... AWESOME, REALLY AWESOME....fa

That must have been the corner of Wyoming I didn`t get to see when I went thru it a few years back. I entered at Cheyenne and went to Cody and a couple days in Yellowstone ...then down to Jackson Hole for 2 days. I started to go south and come in Salt Lake from the east...but opted to go over the mountains into Idaho Falls and go into Salt Lake from the North side.
Thanks for the pics...fills in my mind`s pic album of Wyoming. If I had to live somewhere else besides East Tn it would be Wyoming

Great Picks!!! Me & my wife went to Jackson WY a couple of years ago spent 8 days doing the Yellowstone & Grand Teton thing. Brings back memories Thanks

I can't beleive I just now saw this...great post Carl. I've spent a good bit of time out west, and the beauty is just unreal. Totally different from the South.

p.s. Is that a Mr Wiskers hat I SEE!?!?

It is similar I am sure. Slowdrag and I fished the BITE on the Chick on Sat. may 16th and I got burnt up. My head was peeling so bad it looked like dandruff coming off a road kill possum. I started using that style hat several years ago, covers the ears and neck, while still being cool enough to wear all summer. Also saves some cash on sun screen and is not as apt to be caught with flying trebles as some wide brimmed hats... I caught some grief about it out west, also. We did quite a bit of brush-bustin' and I did not lose my hat once.......
