A friend of mine has a 91 225 Yamaha TL. When you fire it up it will sit there and idle all day. It will even rev up fine in neutral. But once you put it in gear it will "bog" at low speeds. It will spit and sputter then die. If you get it over the hump however it will run like a banshee on top end. Any suggestions?

Not a yammie man, but Mercurys will do that and usually end up being a stator that has a bad low side on 1 pack or stopped up idle circuits in the carbs. Need to have the ignition tested to verify it isn't ignition. If it does turn out to be ignition, here is the chart to measure the peak voltages. As you see, there is a low and shigh side of the stator similar to a mercury. This requires a tool called a Peak Voltage Adapter. If you know someone with one, they can measure it. I actually have one listed for sale in the classifieds. Hope this helps! emoToast

Thanks for the response and info Wrenchin. We're gonna try and take a look at it in the next couple days. We'll see what we come up with.
