I am searching for a Yamaha HPDI mechanic. I have been chasing a ghost for several months. I have replaced the medium filter, disassembled the VST tank, cleaned the electric pump filter and replaced all the fuel lines. I did not check or rebuild/replace the low pressure pumps. The engine runs great but faulters at idle or at 4000 rpms. I can restart the engine and the engine runs fine. emoScratch

Outboard Doc is a good call. The guys over at Fish N Fun do a great job as well. "Butter Bean" helped me out last week-both are great mechanics!

hey, I know what it is. It is a sensor. I cant remember its name. but mine has done it. you would start it and it would only run up to about 4k rpms. put it in neutral, shut it down. restart and it would be fine. its a sensor that can be adjusted that makes it run in limp mode or basically not on all 4 cylinders. call me and we can discuss it. my number is below on my signature. I know a little about yamaha hpdi's. Got one of the strongest ones around. emoDance

shift interrupt sensor or switch is what its called. it basically thinks the motor is not fully negaged in gear and so it runs it in limp mode (4 cylinders, not full power). then when you shut it down and restart it, it resets it.
