22 boats from 6 different schools fished the Yellow Jacket Open yesterday hosted by Grundy County High School and the GCHS Bass Boosters. Dylan Brock & Cody Gunter from Rhea County took first place with 5 fish for 15.31. Shane Broadwell from Rhea County had the big fish with a 5.99...it tried to go to 6.00 on the scales once but wouldn't hold. The tournament paid 5 places with prize packs for both members in the boat. There were plaques for the first four places. Big fish received a plaque and a Lew's rod and reel combo worth $100. EVERYONE who didn't place in the top 5 received a tackle pack courtsey of Castle's Outdoors in Whitwell and the GCHS Bass Boosters. The plaques for the tourney were provided by Double D Trophies in Jasper and Larry and Sonya Summers. There were also 8 draw prizes of 3 Lew's hats, 2 tackle packs, 2 Berkley weigh bags and another Lew's baitcast combo that everyone was eligible for. The entry fee was $20 per boat and almost all of that was put back into the tournament into prizes. Without the great support from Jody Castle and Castle's Outdoors in Whitwell I would not have been able to get as much stuff for the kids. The schools participating were Grundy County, Rhea County, DeKalb County, Chattanooga Christian School, Silverdale Baptist Academy and Murfreesboro Central Magnet School. Full results are below:

White County High School is hosting another tournament on Nickajack at Shellmound on May 4 (I also have a NBT tournament there that day). Brent Brady and Silverdale Baptist are hosting there on May 18. And of course the big high school tourney is June 1. The TBF and Kimball will host the Tennessee High School State Championship on Nickajack out of Shellmound June 1. With the date being later that will allow any student that has graduated 8th grade to also fish this event. I would be willing to bet there will be over 100 boats in that event. High school fishing is going to get big folks. Real Big.

David.

Im jiet glad to see some improvement in the kids catching fish and having a great time, every time they go they get better at it, its a lot of fun seeing the reaction in theyre face when they catch one.

sounds like you guys had an awesome turnout, thats great, would have loved to have been there with a couple of our teams . gonna try to caught some of the other events with them . your doing a standup job with your group david , making it look easy

I don't know about making it look easy. Yesterday wore me out. I had surgery on April 3 and I'm still dealing with some of it. I've been having to wear some things which is why I was in sweat pants yesterday. And my incision has not been perfect and bouncing around some yesterday made me pretty nervous. I couldn't have done all the stuff yesterday without the serious help of the kids in my boat, my son Hank and Dakota Cantrell. My son-in-law Tristan Witt also came down to the weigh in and help and some of the Grundy bass team parents helped with things. I go back to the doctor Wednesday and hopefully all that's attached to me will be unattached. Since I've got an NBT tourney May 4 I need to get back up to speed. But I had a lot of help yesterday and couldn't have done it without them.
