With that time of the year getting closer. Whats your favorite frog to throw ? And what your hookup ratio is? Tips or tricks ? Just curious , might help some novice anglers like myself .

Booyah Pad Crasher...real soft so good hook up ratio. Black or White color for me.

Hey RRB32 , softness wise how would it compare to the kvd sexy frog ? Ive only tried it and a livetarget frog. Not really feeling either of those so far.

As far as hook up ratio I've probably had the best luck with the Live Target. I let them take it with no slack until I feel weight or pressure and then set hook like my life depended on it. Low hook up ratio is just the nature of frog fishing. Some days they're eating it and some days they're just bumping it or exploding on it with closed mouths. If they miss, keep throwing at the exact spot for 5 or so minutes. Often you can come back to that same spot after letting it rest too. Again, I think most all frogs on market suffice, it just depends on aggressiveness of that day or particular bass.

I do not thing it matters if you find aggressive fish. See above, let them take it.

For sure the Custom made Buddy Gross snag proof frog!! And if you want a frog that you will almost have a 100% hook up ratio it is for sure the scum frog.(it just doesn't cast as far) And if you just hate walking a frog all day which I definitely do you can't beat the ole ribbit frog! The ribbit frog can be worked similar to any of the walking frogs! Can't go wrong with white or black. But, you know what they say about froggin, once you go black you might not go back!

Interesting porthos33 . I just watched a video with swifty on the Damiki air frog . that thing looked awesome , maybe a durability issue. But looked very promising.

My favorite are spro and sexy frogs but any will work one trick iv found that drastically increases hook up ratio is to take needle nose pliers (be very careful not to get a hook in your hand ) bend the hook till it is slightly above the body and in a little bit bending it in will keep you from snagging grass to much you will every now and then but its well worth it i rarely trim the skirt but if i do it is VERY little bending your hooks is the big thing they also make a singer hook for them if your getting short strikes but they tend to snag the grass alot good luck my friend!

ive tried just about all of the brands, for fishing on the mats i think you really gotta have a frog with a pointed nose. i think it comes across the mat better but i have seen a time or 2 when the disturbance of trying to pull a popping frog across a mat seemed to get more bites. as far as im concerned there are 3 colors of frogs: black, white and natural green(snagproof original). trim the tails to about an inch long, add weight, rattles and scent.

the live target i think has one of the softest bodies and great hooks.

contrary to a lot of folks i dont wait, when a fish blows on the my frog i jerk. i really believe if they wanted it, they got it. if they didnt get it then i throw back to them. as the day goes on you get a feel for how aggressive they are being and some days i will look for the frog before jerking if i know they are not taking it well.

I've tried a ton of brands and can't really say any one brand is far superior. Just like most other methods I think it really comes down to personnel preference and more importantly confidence in whatever you tie on. For me I like both the Booyah Pad Crasher (both the reg and the poppin versions) and the Spro Bonzeye (the 65 and the King Daddy 90). Of all the frogs I've thrown there's one I would single out as complete crap, the Live Target Sunfish version. The concept is pretty interesting and you can get plenty of blow ups on them but good luck with the hookup ratio. Another issue with them is taking on water. I've got 3 and the all need to be squeezed way more than any of the other brand of frog.

As far as tips. One of most important I can think of is making sure you have the right rod/reel setup. It makes a huge difference. I'm not a guy who has to have a dedicated setup for every style of fishing imaginable but when it comes to frogging I do. (I have 3 rods (Dobyns 735 Champion and 2 customs I built) All of them are paired up with Lews Super Duty 8.01:1. They pretty much have a frog tied on 365.

There are plenty of YouTube vids on how to tweak your frog. The ones I do are: trim the skirt down to about the same length as the body, slightly bend out the hooks, and I always drop a few glass bead rattles inside. Not sure if the noise really makes a difference but I like the little added weight that allows a little added distance.

I love the spro and KVD sexy frog. My last Fall trip to Chick I smoked them on the white KVD sexy frog. I usually use the pointed nose frog and not the popper if Im fishing the thick stuff. If Im fishing the edges I will use the popper. Good luck!
