ive tried just about all of the brands, for fishing on the mats i think you really gotta have a frog with a pointed nose. i think it comes across the mat better but i have seen a time or 2 when the disturbance of trying to pull a popping frog across a mat seemed to get more bites. as far as im concerned there are 3 colors of frogs: black, white and natural green(snagproof original). trim the tails to about an inch long, add weight, rattles and scent.
the live target i think has one of the softest bodies and great hooks.
contrary to a lot of folks i dont wait, when a fish blows on the my frog i jerk. i really believe if they wanted it, they got it. if they didnt get it then i throw back to them. as the day goes on you get a feel for how aggressive they are being and some days i will look for the frog before jerking if i know they are not taking it well.
