I am looking for a youth compound bow and need some of your expertise. What brand, where to get it and about how much should I expect to spend.

Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone.

I got my 8 year old son the Genesis package from Cabelas for Christmas this year. He of course hasn't got to use it yet so I can't really say good bad or different but it has variable draw weight and length. I have heard many good things about it though. He's left handed and there's not many choices for youth compound bows for lefties. The package was not cheap either around $200.

i have a 10 year old i looked every where before archery season they weree very expencive but be wonted to hunt with it the ga law is 40 or 45 # draw weight he had trouble pulling a 30# so we are hoping next year i just thought this mite help if your child is wonting it to hunt with also tailspinners in rocksprings ga has some nice youth bows im thinking they were around 400 with all the extras good luck

here's my advice, for what its worth...

Its important that a young archer has the correct form from the get go. I think finding a quality archery proffesional is as important as what type of bow you end up with. Thus, I recommend Turk's Sport Shop. He is located on the corner of Ooltewah-Georgetown Rd. and Mahan Gap Rd in Ooltewah. His number is 326-1812. He is absolutely great with kids, heck he taught me how to shoot when I started.

He is a muti-branded distributor and even has some used archery tackle avaiable sometimes. I highly recommend him. Tell him Churly sent ya! Good-luck, and way-to-go on getting the youth involved!

i have not checked in a while for draw weight requirements for the state. but you'll need to be producing at least 30 ft*lbs or so of kinetic energy with the finished setup. this is easily calculated, just google kinetic energy calculators and some will come up. you enter in the arrow weight and speed and it will spit out the numbers. i can't remember the formula off the top of my head. also with low kinetic energy setups, a cut on contact broadhead becomes very important. i would recommend a razor sharp 2-blade.

its great you are getting your youngster into archery and bowhunting. I have bowhunted for 13 years or so and absolutely love it. plus its another deer season for father/son hunts. but it may be a couple years before yours can actually go after deer, depending on the size of your son and what weights he can draw back. if he can't get a bow heavy enough for deer, there are always squirrels and rabbits that need stalking!
