More on lure-ology on a rainy Sunday morning

I respectfully beg to differ after over 45 years of fishing on 25 bodies of water. Fish like most wild animals eat what they want when they want to. Same for lures (except the eating part). If your statement was true, aquarium fish (salt water and fresh) would starve to death. Will bass stop...

Tariffs a good thing. How about mass deportation?

Trade wars with our largest trading partners doesn't seem like a good idea, especially for consumers that will bear the increase in prices across the board. It's kind of like an indirect federal tax. Agriculture will also be affected by the double whammy of tariffs and the loss of immigrant...

You're welcome! Tip: if you take a child fishing to show him or her how well lures catch fish, you might want to try this: 1. Tale a 2" curl tail grub (i.e. Mr Twister) 2. cut off the tail 3. rig it on a 1/64 oz, 1/32 oz or 1/24 oz. ball head jig 4. show the prospective angler how to work it in...

Some might say that the above examples represent this or that to a fish, but can it be proven? All I know is that each unique action catches many species of fish of different sizes and those lure shapes/actions must be in my tackle box. There are 10 other soft plastic designs not mentioned but...

Gary Y. Kut tail and Softie Worm (rt.): In order for the near surface presentation to work, the jig can only weigh 1/32 oz-1/24 oz. to get the darting zig-zag action.

Some examples of soft plastic shapes I can always count on: Bulb or body but no tail (one of my most productive lures): As you can see, color is in the eyes of the beholders

What a superb well written reply! Thank you so much! Having made my own lures and experimented with lure shapes, color and lure actions for over 50 years. has been an ongoing education. I fished tournaments for over 15 years and did well. Granted, weighing in big fish or nice bag of fish...

    Trailer Hitch Alignment guide

I used this years ago on my Ranger boat trailer, but now I'm using the 2-balls on poles/ magnets method (not mine of course! ;)) Anyone use the one shown? If I remember correctly, it was much easier to use without going forward and back with the truck. Tip: After parking the trailer before...

So tragic the storms that decimated the folks down south!

My wife's cousin had a lot to deal with in Fl. with a brain tumor that was removed early this year with symptoms that won't allow him to work ever again. Then, his manufactured home was totaled by tornado force winds but luckily he is able to take refuge with his elderly mother in her home. It's...

JHMO = Just My Humble Opinion - which says it all when it comes to opinion based advice. This may be helpful to less experienced anglers or beginners as well as present ideas never considered by those more experienced that may be of use. I know that many of the experienced anglers on fishing...

Dang it! my Merc motor mechanic didn't know jack about trolling motors!

The foot pedal on my Motor Guide bow mount tm was getting stiffer and stiffer to depress. I almost had to stand on it to get it to turn in either direction. So I called my mechanic who is a whiz when it comes to Merch engines - even the motor as old as the one on my bass boat. I described the...

    Need some advice !!!!

They best advice ever! Targeting a species is impossible the smaller the lure cast, which is the nicest thing using small soft plastics on light jigs. I know this is an old post but I have insights regarding lures and presentations you might find interesting.

cff is sure not what it once was

NRG - get well and fish, fish, fish! On CFF I've found since posting about lures and the reasons fish strike them, that the responses were relevant, respectful and considerate regardless the poster's take on lures. NO other forum has come close! I will continue to contribute because other than...

Soft-plastic wire grip idea for jigs and trailers

Note: super glue and barbed jigheads are options preferred to the grub grip wire to keep lures up. But changing lures using those options damage lures which can't be used again. The grip allows lures to catch far more fish and still stay up on the jig.
