I have a Mercury XR4 150 that goes into reverse just fine but the only way I can get it into forward is to rev the engine up, with hot-foot, and slam it in forward. If the motor is at idle and I try forward, it just grinds. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Put in at Skull Island this morning and headed down river fishing main lake pockets that had clay banks and wind blowing on them. Throwing a trap I managed to catch 2 keepers in the few hours I was there.
