I have a late 1970's 2 cycle mercury outboard motor. For the past year I've been using "Mercury Premium Plus 2 stroke synthetic blend" engine oil. Nichols Marine was a heavy carrier of this kind of oil and now that they closed down I can't seem to find a business that carries it. I guess my main question is whether it matters what oil I use as long as it is a 2 stroke engine oil? I'm just afraid my motor will act up if I use something different....it's a very sensitive engine so I want to stick to what I've been using. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have been using the Quicksilver Premium Plus but couldn't find it anymore. I was told the label was changed and that the Quicksilver Premium Plus Synthetic Blend is the same exact thing just a different label now. Most Walmart's and Academys have it.

Would somebody tell me when synthetic oil is necessary?
Is synthetic oil superior to regular 2 cycle oil?
Thanks
