My Yamaha started missing when i get on plane like its starving for fuel . It idles fine, it only seems to happen when its under a load. Its been a year since i replaced plugs. Could that be my problem or is it a fuel issue?

I had the same symptoms last summer and it was a fouled plug. Surged like crazy underload. I have an 07 Vmax carb and It seemed I was going through plugs like crazy running yamalube. THis march I switched to a full Synthetic and It made a world of difference in this motor. I went through 3 sets of plugs last year on Yamalube. If you havent changed them In a year that be the first thing Id check.

Called several part stores and none of them carried the ngk's I needed but advanced auto cross refrenced with autolite, I was leary of this but i tried them. I gapped them to .39 and installed, also changed gear lube. Ran engine in yard idled good. Took to the lake and tested and everything ran out good, didnt miss a bit at WOT. I also added 2 cans of Seafoam to a full tank of gas. Thanks again, BB45

O'Reilleys usually carries most NGK's and they are available online from them and several others. It is always a goodidea to keep a full set of plugs in hand for your boat motors. Sometimes holidays and backwater locations make it difficult to get parts.

Most of the time a fouled plug will not let it get on plane. Follow Carl's advice and keep a spare set and someting to change them with. I have seen people have the plugs and no way to replace them!!!!!!
