I have to VENT !!!
I went to Academy today to get #8.0 hooks & smoked (salt & pepper) Fat Alberts. After looking for 10 to 15 min. I cant find any large hooks and only 2 colors of fat alberts. I ask a lady that works there if she can get me some help well she says I have to go the counter and get them to find someone and she looks at the Gun counter so I go over there & he says I need to go talk to the lady I just left! This is not the first time they didn't have what I was looking for or they were to LAZY to help me find it! So with all that said its OFFICIAL Academy SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They lost my business today & from now on. I left there and drove to Sportsman Warehouse got everything I was looking for and left a HAPPY camper. Like I said this wasn't the first time this has happened but IT WAS THE LAST! emoHoppingmad

i HATE that place i use to work there. All the people that knew some about fishing either left the store or left the department. The department directer of fishing in that store has never even been freshwater fishing!!!!

I went in there about a year ago to buy a Veritas rod when they had all there rods on sale. They only had 2 or 3 Veritas rods in stock. The day after the sale went off they had 10 to 15 of them in the rack THATS BULL S*#T !!!

I need to add that I raised heck about the Veritas rod the day after the sale and he let me have it for the sale price. I went to Academy the day the sale started and the last day of the sale. They only had a couple of Veritas rods but the day after the sale the rack was full of them, makes you think they had taken them off the shelf for the sale then put them back after the sale

I'm pretty sure they will honor their sale prices ...after the sale is off, at least they did for a neighbor of mine on a rack that fits on a reciever hitch. I guess it's who you talk too.

I love that store....I really can't complain.

Remember that before they were there the only place in my area was Wal-Mart. They are light years ahead

A couple wks ago I called about a rod that was on sale on their internet site. The person I talked to at the Hamilton place store said they had them on sale there too. My son and I jumped in his truck and drove down there from cleveland. They didn't have it. We went out and called the Hixson store and they told us they had it so we drove over there and nope---they didn't have it either. We wasted our time and GAS to drive down there for nothing. You can call Dicks and they will tell you if they have something or if they don't. I can never get anyone on the phone at sportsmans warehouse to find out if they have anything or not. With the price of gas nowdays it would be nice to find out if they have what your after before you drive all the way down there and burn half a tank of gas. I would just order everything, but I ordered a reel and the post office " miss delivered it " and so I'm out the cost of the reel now because the reel made it to cleveland, just went to someone else. What are you supposed to do? emoScratch

i boat cover from academy(hixson) in may of 2012 and it begin tearing apart about three days ago.i took it off and found my receipt and went to see about getting it replaced.at first the girls at the desk said it would have to go back to manufacturer for warranty i was ready to say i didn't buy it from them i bought it from you but before i did one of the girls said go pick me one out.so i went back to look for the one i bought.(gold) but the one i bought was not in stock.i then looked for some one to help me.i found a man that looked again for a(gold) the one i had bought before.well he couldn't find one either so he found a platinum one is the size i needed and said to take it up there and the girls would take care of it for me.i said ok but this is not what i bought before but he said it would be ok.well the girls looked at it and said it was 38 bucks more and i said that the man that helped me said it would be ok.they said it would have to be approved by a mgr. so she asked me who helped me.i pointed him out and she went and brought him up to the desk and told him about the difference in price.he punched in a few numbers and then said there you go and for me to come back.he went out of his way to make me happy and i will not forget it.sorry for being so long winded.(please don't put me in the same ring as you know who.lol

Most of my experiences with them have been-if you can't find it on your own you better find Taylor in the Hixson store-he will tell you off the top of his head if they have it or not.
I'd like to say I'm sorry (but I'm not) I have walked up to as many as 3 of the kids that work there and were talking to each other, and when I must have looked like I was going to ask a question-it looked like you threw a hand grenade in the middle of them! They scattered like leaves in the wind!
Clone about 20 Ditchdocs and you'd have the best store in town!
I stood at the reel counter for a few minutes wanting to buy a Shimano Sahara and the young man behind the counter was too busy laughing with a buddy of his about something they were looking at on the whatever cell device that he never even looked my way!
Brian at Sportsman's Whsesold me the reel and pointed out the new features, gave me his card and said feel free to call him and if it wasn't spooling up right-bring it in and he'd shim the spool for me!

I wish Taylor would tell the powers that be about this thread. I won't bash a store on here, but it sure ain't what it was when they first opened. :(

I don't mean to sound rude, but I've worked there in another departments and the guns and ammo are twice as important as the fishing stuff is to most of the managers. I guess it's about twice the money. However, Academy is great about returns, or damaged items.

I have has similar troubles with the Academy in Hixson. I was at the gun counter on one occasion, and the service desk on another. Both times were going to be major purchases and they failed to come thru on either one. So as Phil Robertson would say "I'm gone"...

I've had the same problems everyone else has. I wasn't going to comment. But and not picking on your post personally(javelin33) MANAGERS should understand if they lose a customer in fishing or some other dept. they'll never sell that customer a gun!
