Do the Dems not control the majority to pass?

They most certainly do. No one especially on here can answer why they won't do what they were elected to do. All they can do is TRY to blame the Republicans. Fact is if they stick together there is nothing the Republicans can do to stop them.
Personally I'm glad they don't have the nads to do anything.

Doc, I would cut inheritance taxes first, which would flood the market with new capital (ya know people buying stuff, and investing in businesses) which would in turn grow the economy , which in turn would create jobs.
Explain to me the impact of this? My understanding is inheritance tax collected is but a very small (miniscule) amount of GNP. I just don't see how a blip of the total is going to "flood" the market. Also it my understanding that most of the time any inheritance is usually put into some sort of savings, not for immediate consumption. Savings doesn't equate to market growth, IMO.

Second, I would cut business taxes (not give them a credit) which would create more sustainable jobs, then just a tax credit that is good for a year. That is where I would start.
How is lower taxes going to create sustainable jobs? To me, a reduction in business taxes, just means a larger bonus for the CEO and no creation of jobs.

Brandon, I agree with what you have said about 90%. I think the credit idea is right, if you give a credit for a business to add on people, they might do so but if you give a tax cut across the board, these businesses could say why should I add on more people but with the credit, they have to put people on to receive it.</p>

Just from hearing all the answers on here, I thought most posters didn't give a damn about their fellow man, you are commended for saying your heart goes out to the unemployed, mine does too, that is the reason I posted the article where one senator was holding up the ball game on unemployment. Some have used a quotation from the bible like "there will always be poor people", another has posted, "the sorry bums that are on welfare need to get a job", some on here care only for themselves, their fellow man can fend for himself, "I got mine now you go get yours". I think a lot on here need to have a bit of soul searching and say to themselves, "I could be in that predicament also"</p>

I know exactly what you mean about the engineers jobs going unfilled, some don't want to leave the house, some haven't heard about the jobs, some wouldn't go to hunsville if they were hired on the spot before they left, this is just people. I have worked construction all my life, I have moved quite a few times over the years to keep employed and I didn't like it one bit but I keep my bills paid, food on the table, and a roof over my head by doing so. I knew I couldn't make ends meet by drawing unemployment for ver long. In other words I did what i had to do. The engineer jobs aren't the only jobs that might be available to the unemployed who don't have a degree but you can make a fine living by doing them, who ever persues them might get employed.</p>

I agree with paying for all of our programs. Not paying for programs is what has gotten us into so much debt. Republicans and Democrats love their pet projects, but don't pay for them. We had two wars and a drug benefit passed in the last administration and none of it was paid for. It all is finally on the books now and we are deep in debt. If you're man/woman enough to pass it pay be man/woman enough to pay for it. Don't make my daughter's generation paupers because we went on a spending spree now. The dollar has lost 60% of its value since 2001. When we print money to pay for things like we did in the last administration the value of the dollar declines. Let's get back on track to a surplus like we had in the 90s. Things were good then.

Great post there Brandon! </p>
