Just wondering if any of you guys ever made the trip down to Carters Lake in Chats/Ellijay???? It's almost time to catch some of the biggest spots that swim....... There are some absolute giants caught in the fall/winter time, I CANT WAIT.... This pic is of a 6.2lb spot last December caught late evening on a 3/4 Brown Jig w/ Big Mad Man Craw Tube Trailer in 20 ft of water. It was my biggest spot of the year but I do know of 3 more that were caught in December that were bigger than that.......

It's been a while, but I have fished Carter's Lake a good bit. I love fishing up there. They have some decent sized crappies, as well.

Weiss also has a great population of spots.

When we used to fish Carter's, we would take the Zoom 4" Dead Ringers, on the Renegade weedless jigheads, and we would swim them for the spots. We would crush them using that.

GEEZ, what a Spotted Bass. I am going as soon as I can. I heard they were real bruisers there, but man that is a true trophy, congratulations on that one.

Triton LB and myself are partners, We love to catch them big spots here at Carters Lake, It is kinda our back yard lake since we only live 20 mins away. On most trips, you can luckily hook in to one of Mag Spots, and on the other hand; you guys know fishing. Winter tournament will be starting in a month or so and run till next spring...See ya there........

I might have to venture down there for that.....I would love to catch a mag spot, but I have never been on the lake. Might pull mine down there and follow you guys around if ya dont mind.

Get ready for a real shocker. LOL Carter's is DEEP! Maybe Jimmy Hoffa is down there. LOL emoBigsmile

So where is good place to start, I mean like 10', 20'??? What sizes of line...8, 10??? DOnt want specific places man, just as idea. I dont mind pecking around. What about underwater hazards to boats?? Channel marked?

Oh Lord, it's been a couple of years since I last fished Carters with my Dad. We always had our luck fishing up in the creeks. I would like to get back out there and learn about it again.

I would say, though, that the spots that we were watching, which were between 1-5 lbs., all came from 15 ft. or less of water.

Wormhook---

Carters is the BEST lake anywhere to get a spot 6-7lbs..... Lanier has a lot of big spots and is without a doubt the most consistent lake for the 3-5 lbers. Allatoona is more consistent than Carters for numbers, but Carters is in my opinion where the biggest spots around live. It is a fun lake to fish AT TIMES, but there are other times where she's THE TOUGHEST LAKE ANYWHERE!!! NO DOUBT!!!

I would pick my time of year carefully if I was gonna drive a ways to fish Carters.... The best month to catch a Giant Spot on Carters is mid- November through December, you don't always have great numbers but there are so many patterns going on. I've seen more days during that time of year where you couldn't go wrong with any bait.... I did a Georgia Outdoor News article on Carters a couple of years back and I had 1 spot over 5, 1 spot over 4, and 3 more spots over 3lb in the first 2 hours of the day.....

John is right when he said to concentrate on the creeks more, the water is so deep at Carters you really can catch fish anywhere and the creeks are most consistent. The water is super clear everywhere so use light line, I like 10lb Berkley Vanish. Small jighead worms work very well and also Carters is a super Jerkbait lake in the winter time. Hope this helps.

This pic is another spot caught this year it weighed 5.8 this was one of the fattest spots I've ever seen.....

LB............just wanted to see if you have seen this on your finder, or not. If you are leaving the marina, and you are following the shoreline, about 50 yds. away from the shoreline, with the shore being on your left.................we came across a spot that was over 600 ft. deep (finder we had wouldn't go past 600 ft.) and we notice 3-4 "pinnacles" coming up out of the bottom of the lake. I don't remember just how deep they started, but I remember seeing them on the finder. At the time, my Mom was with me, as we were loading out of Doll Mountain (I think it was Doll Mountain), and she saw it as well.

Any idea of it was a problem with the finder, or if those things are still there? Sometimes, it's scary to think just how deep Carters is at places.

If any of you all that fish up there need someone to keep the back seat warm, let me know. LOL I want to go fishing up there again.

LOL When LB says the water is clear.............Dad and I remember seeing stripers that were just swimming around a point, as we were trolling. Thinking that it was like 20 ft. to the point where they were, we let our lines down to see if we could get their attention. After going well past 20 ft., we looked at one another. We could easily see down to 50 ft. on that day. Makes fishing really tough when the water is that clear. Is it still that clear??

The water is clear, I don't know about seeing 50ft deep LOL but it's clear..... As far as the depth who really knows, I do know I've never marked water over 450ft at full pull the deepest part of the lake is susposed to be at the mouth of Fisher Creek.... It is for sure the deepest lake in Georgia.
