**Just so everyone knows, Harrison Bay officers have asked that all weigh ins on the WEEKENDS be held away from the ramp. **

Try to isolate an area out of the way in the parking lot or dock. Maybe one of our park Rangers from there could reply here.

-Thanks

If only the officers would request that all of the idiots putting their boats in, be ready to launch before they back down the ramp and those pulling their boats out, GET OUT OF THE WAY and move up into the parking lot.

and thats what we seen there and Chesterfrost. Unreal.

just wait til tomorow memorial day . it will be miserable . better get there early and stay late ! the ramps will be packed .

The officer spoke to me and said that we were the reason for all the congestion on the ramp. I pointed out that none of us were even loading our boats, they were all on the docks, but he said that our standing there (on the weigh in area) was causing the problem. Apparently the family that was trying to launch their pontoon boat for 20 minutes causes no congestion.emoScratch

If only the officers had said something to the owner of the pontoon boat that tied up the ramp for well over 20 minutes while we were trying to load and weigh. What a complete crock that was ... the 12 or so boats fishing the tournament and the rest of the fishermen launching at the same time took half as much time to get in the water and park ... in complete darkness. Why are the idiots tip-toed around and the fishermen picked on?

I wouldn't even worry about it. I'd keep weighing in right there cause it will suck carrying a bag of fish 100 yards back to the water. I understand that the park is for everyone, and that means us too. I have paitence with the "amature boater". I know that it can be confusing loading your boat if you only do it once a year, however I will tell them when they're messing up. If I see them pull their boat right out of the water 10ft then get out and start securing everything I will say something to them. I feel like it's our responsibility to educate when we can. If you see someone blocking the ramp just politely let them know the proper etiquette. We should just make a sign that says.."Do not block ramp! Have your boat ready to launch before pulling onto the ramp or you will die."

The 99 year old Coast Guard guys that were @ the ramp when we pulled out won't be around much except for the holidays. And realy don't heve a clue as to the goings on of the park, or at least thats how it seemed. They had the ramp backed up doing inspections at the short dock on seado's.

There are some crazy people even when not having the boat involved... I was fishing off the bank today for the big bass... I was throwing that large bream. And a guy came up on the dock with his fishing equipment, where there is NO FISHING allowed, while I was under and throwing that large bream. The guy said, "Good GAWD MAN, are you tryin to ruin it for everyone, you is scarin all the fish away"... I just ignored him, but my mom said "He's going for the big bass that are down there, he's getting them to bite also", then she said, "You're not allowed to fish off the dock, you can only fish off the bank anywhere." The stupid man just ignored, then walked off with his minnow bucket about a minute later. Then I landed a 5lb bass on that bream right after that! JEEZ. People just think that big bream wont catch you fish.

We were fishing the grasshopper tx last night and they were these mexicans (team jalapenio) at the ramp backed rite down the middle there boat wouldnt start (battery was dead ) they just sit there on the ramp workin on it tryin to boost it from the trollin battery for like 30 min noone who was fishin the tx and hadnt put in could finally some one told them they would have to move we were 15 min late blasting off because of those idiots and to beat it all it was a nice newer model hydra sport but if u cant charge your batteries and dont know how to launch stay out of the way till it is not so congested

Could weighin be held out in the water on a large boat, or a pontoon boat. This would eliminate congestion on land. Should be doable and would be cool.

Billy, just do like our group done last year. Pull everyone out and tie down, drive over to the pier and do the weigh in. Release the fish off the pier.

Weighing fish on a boat is not accurate.

MMmmmm..I'll tell ya what,...if you would like to get a pontoon boat and bring it to every Tx that we have down to the water to weigh our fish on I guess we can try it.emoScratch I think you have no idea how hard that would be. Who would bring the pontoon, who would launch it and how would a person bringing a bass boat to fish the tx also bring a pontoon to wiegh them on.emoConfused

This year I have been at two Tx where they had the wiegh in over at the parking lot at the end of the camp grounds. You can pull your boat right up on the bank and we used a picnic table at the Catch Tx. That worked very well and you are able to be right by the water to let them go. That would work if we want to try that.emoThumbsup Jmax

Please tell me which officer you guys spoke to. I was off yesterday. Can I get one you gentlemen to meet with me and let get together on this so we can get this worked out. Yes I agree that there is a major congestion problem at HBSP ramp. Just the other day there was almost a huge fist fight because some dude was sitting in his truck on this cellphone blocking traffic. I almost had to tow a guy a couple weeks ago because he jump into his truck and let his truck on the ramp keys in it and went fishing for 5 hours. Well I had to get in his truck and move it because it was causing a problem. He was so embarrassed when he got back he loaded his boat I dont think he even strapped it down. I try to be out there when there is alot of activity so I can encourage people to move on. Another problem is the resturante with all the activity going on there. This time of year people go out and buy boats large boats and dont have a clue how to launch or load them. Just someone meet with me and let work out some ideas. The park manager has a idea to build a dedicated fish weigh in area for tournament with a dry erase board. We would like to make it as user friendly for every one. Some one please contact me. Via phone at the office @ 423-344-6214 and leave me a # or e-mail me a [email protected]. You think the boat ramp is bad try dealing with a person who has just purchased a new 60 motor home or a 40 trailer where the salesman just handed them key and said good by. Look forward to hearing from someone. HBSP Park Ranger.

I will get to work on the sign tues when I come back on duty that will be up in a week or so soon as TDOT can get it ready for me. Please PM any suggestion on the wording. Please remember to keep it clean and professional and cater it to all boaters.

Wow, that's really great. I didn't get the person's name and he wasn't rude at all, I just don't think was really watching what was happening. The main congestion was from the people waiting to launch, almost none of them got their boats ready until they were on the ramp. If he would have looked he'd have seen that none of the bass boats were even out of the water, almost all of us were tied up to the docks. It wouldn't be a problem to have us all pull out and weigh in over at the dock on the other side of the bay as he suggested.
