Bartlett Brothers Busted for Crappie Violations

WOW! I can’t believe some of you are advocating the TWRA engage in judge shopping again!! I can think of other judges more qualified to handle game law violations for reasons I choose not to say on a public forum.
This is a game law violation and the punishment should fit the crime, nothing more and nothing less. It is not a life and death situation and the public was not endangered. I am always amazed at the hypocrisy involving game law violations. Some people want to punish them beyond what the law says and at the same time when they, themselves, get a speeding ticket, which does endanger the public, try to get out of the ticket.
I don’t condone what they did but I am impressed by their ability to catch so many fish considering the weather and water conditions.

I sure hope that is not any of the Bartletts that fish any of the local tournaments. emoMad If someone would cheat at that they may very well cheat at a tournament. When someone brakes the law on one thing and justifies it, they find it easier to justify more cheating. Just does not make any sense. Why would someone who is catching that many crappie find it necessary to keep short fish and way over their limits. emoAngry If he needed fish that bad he could have gone after those worthless catfish and had all they wanted. emoPoke

Good job to all the officers that had a part in this one. Usually when someone is caught doing this kind of thing their fishing privaleges will be revoked for a year or two. If this is a fella that fished in some of the logal bass club tournaments it will be unlikely we will see him for a good while. Just plan stupid, that is all there is to it. emoBadLanguage Jmax

I don't beleive these guys are going to be getting off easy with any judge with a violation of this magnitude.
I think that the members wanting them to go in front of Moon is just wanting them to have the best shot at getting what they really deserve.
Even at only 19 counts (which I don't understand either) I think each count carries a $200 plus fine, fairly stout! But. I'd rather see the 111 counts.
We all try hard to abide by the laws for conservation reasons and the fear of a big fine so, when someone laughs in the face of these laws -it ticks you off!

I agree with LoweriePix and BBass, ... together! Take everything that they had in their procession, auction it off. Pop there butts with 111 violations, each, face the court and then ban them from any outdoor license in Tennessee! Thank you Officer Majors!

Doesn't he fish dogfights and tournaments?

There is a Mike Bartlett who fished the Thurs. and the Tuesday night dog fights. Is that the same as James Michael Bartlett.?????? Has that guy ever been accussed of shady crap?????

Glad that the GW's got him!

I think some of you guys are a bit dramatic. I mean take their house and car and all their gear? Thats a little harsh, especially since we have all been guilty at one time or another for something. To be honest, I have kept 10 trout before even though my limit was 8. I was wrong and now I usually only catch and release. I think these gus should be charged with 111 violations and fined according to the law for each offence. Taking their permits wont do any good or would taking their houses. But they should be punished to the point that they will never consider doing anything like this again. Thats my take anyways

I just happened to be talking with Matt's supervisor on the phone when he got the call. I reminded him how I had charged a fellow with every fish over the limit on sauger at Watts Bar tailwaters on Christmas eve for a total of $3200 in fines and costs plus a year of his fishing privileges. I held his bass boat as well. He was glad to just have to pay the fines and not lose his boat, but it killed him to lose his fishing privileges.

I would love to see a big fine in this case and loss of privileges. Congrats to Matt, Philip, Jarod, and Brandon for a very important arrest. We have the very best wildlife officers in the whole southeast right here in this area. Thank you Richard for always covering their good works.

I think they were just saying that. Of course no one wants to see these guys loose their house and cars.

I do agree that a very heavy fine is needed along with loosing their fishingprivileges for life.

I hope they throw the book at them and get fined for all 111 plus take the boat and vehicles. I think they should keep the house.

For my education, can someone expand on the double limit in possession rule? You can only have two limits uncleaned at your house or in your possession away from the water???? Not that I have ever caught that many on my own mind you, but hey it could happen (as likely as The Weather Channel finally having the ultimate cosmic event to report).

Hey Salcreek, the law states you may only posses twice the daily creel in any species. Cleaned or otherwise. But, it only is an issue with egregious offenders, you wont see a report for somebody having 42 cleaned crappie fillets in the freezer.

There is a reason for creel limits that is why the fishing in our area is getting to be as good as it is he should face a stiff fine and lose his fishing licesen for at least one year emoBang

he was back out there fishing this mourning they should have took his license till the court date .dont get me wrong if was hungry and had no money and had family then that may be different he has no kids and lives with his mom and dad

IM not really impressed...they could have caught them in a cast net!!

Hate to see people abuse our natural resources..Props to the guy who tipped the wardens off. I also believe he should be fined for every single fish over the limit, he knew what he was doing.

That doesn't mean it's not illegal. And offenders should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, right?
