The Bass Pro Shop will kill the little bit of fishing busines at Sportmans Warehouse and Academy.

Harco - 6/10/2014 1:24 PM Johnny Morris and Bass Pro didn't get as big as they are, making stupid decisions. I am sure they checked the market before the decided to build here.
I'm sure they did too but we'll see. We have a contract with them and Cabelas so I deal with buyers with both companies quite a bit. You really think there is a market in Chattanooga for Sportsman WH, 2 Academy sports, Cabelas and a Bass Pro...oh wait and Gander Mountain and Dicks Sporting goods (which I'm shocked hasn't closed the doors, that place is horrible). I didn't realize there were so many BPS supporters. I like to spend my money at Tackle warehouse and Hamilton's if possible.

Iwould not be surprised to see Dicks close their fishing department like they did at the one in Knoxville. It is poorly run. I also see one of the others not surviving in this area. Academy runs some very aggressive sales so I think they will be okay. Sportsmans and the little guys may be in trouble.</p>

This is great for the entire area,we should be thankful they would consider us for a Bass Pro outlet. As stated before, many more jobs, more tax revenue and not having to travel two hours to visit a store two hours away.

People like Soddy tackle will be fine. They make custom stuff that you can't find anywhere and live bait. My wife said we have to move because we live 2 minutes from both of them. Academy will be fine because of the sports demographic. As for Sportsman's I don't know. Gander mountain isn't one exit apart from them so they might be OK.

I shop both Bass Pro and Cabela's retail locations. For fishing, BPS is the leader in selection, by far. Cabela's will be your hunting HQ. Gander will knock the profitability out of Academy's fishing. Dicks, despite their origin is not a hunting or fishing destination anywhere, not Chattanooga, not Burlington, Vt. or Plattsburgh, N.Y. Their annual report also says that. As far as local goes, Soddy Custom tackle will do well, and the rest will most likely join the long list of Chattanooga tackle retailers who are RIP, Reeves for example, plus many others.
