I was wondering if anyone has had any exsperiance with this line going to put it on a UL spinning reel..
Ive heard mixed opinions on the Fluorocarbon , Berkly clames to be more user friendly "not as stiff".. Hi Vis above water and low vis below??? What you think???

My opinion on Vanish and Transition Vanish Fluorocarbon is that it's not the best Fluoro' line, but it's economical and in my experience the lighter you go w/ Vanish (i.e. 4lb-6lb) the better it handles and you're wanting it for an UL reel so it should work fine for you.

Be sure to Spool the line slowly and w/ as much tension as possible to try to prevent twists. Also something I do w/ UL reels is not spool them all the way full. That seems to help a lot too.

You'll LOVE Vanish ... for the first trip or two. I'm a huge fan of all things Berkley, but I've never used a poorer product than Vanish. When it's first spooled and used, you'll swear it's the best thing you ever put on your reel. In no time flat, it'll get so brittle that even the slightest pressure will bust it and the memory is terrible.

I'm still yet to use a flouro that I like ... mostly because I can't stand the memory and the 'extra' care needed to fish them, but Vanish is definitely the worst yet. My personal choice for my UL reels is 4lb Sensation, but there are other great monos out there.

Do a search here on the CFF for 'Vanish' and you'll see I'm not alone.

Good luck pj

I bought Vanish... no idea why, did no research before I bought it. I had used Spiderwire for over 10 yrs and needed something lighter and flowed with the current better. So, I grabbed it. Put it on a Shimano Spinning reel, medium rod. It is the worst stuff I've ever thrown. It just JUMPS off the spool and twists so badly that I stripped it off the after one day. Went to Sportsmans warehouse and talked with the guys there for a bit. Respooled two spools. Trilene was flawless this past weekend. Coming back to mono can be heartbreaking, but having to deal with line instead of fishing is much worse... Avoid Vanish, in my opinion.

Vanish is junk and I am like RR in that I have yet to be impressed with any flurocarbon line. I have now used several brands and sizes including the revered Halo and they all break too easily for me. There is no stretch and therefore no cushion. If you have lots of disposable cash these lines are probably OK at best. Mr.Crappie is inexpensive but works well and has plenty of cushion for ultralight fishing. Mr Crappie is cheap enough that you can afford to change it every time you go fishing. $6.95 for 3100 yds of 4 pound.

Flouro is just not good for spinning reels. Vanish is by far the worst of the flouro lines. If you want a good one get you some seaguar Invisx. I use it for jigs, worms, and c rigs. Don't get it if you want to throw small crankbaits or make long casts with any lure other than the c-rig. It is just not for all things. As for the no stretch comment, recent tests have been done that show it stretches more than mono. It is just much denser and thats why its more sensitive in my view. I have been using it for several years.

Vanish Transition is crap, I don't know how many breakoffs I had before I took all I had and threw it in the trash.
Try P-Line, it is much better.

I like flourocarbon line. Trilene and P-line have been good to me, very sensitive and strong. As for ultra light stuff I too am a big fan of Mr. Crappie!

Cheez has already given the best advice for ul reels so I won't be redundant. My question is why do you want to try vanish? Are you thinking that fish will bite lures better if the line is invisible? Trust me, the hi-vis yellow Mr Crappie line will not scare any fish from biting. I have caught smallmouth, trout, crappie, catfish, bluegill, everytype of fish using this line.

It is a myth that fish are spooked by line size or color. Some on here will argue that point, but, proper presentation will cause a fish to bite regardless of line used. Location, presentation, and confidence are keys to fishing success. Some lines because of little or no stretch will be more sensitive to "feel" when fishing deep water, but line watching will reveal more strikes than feel ever did and hi-vis lines outperform invisible lines in this regard. That's just my 0.02 worth. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Where does a man find Mr Crappie line around here??? I was hoping to support local biz, but no-one I have found carries it. I tried, Wally Wolrd, Sm MT Tackle, Harrisons, Boaters World. Whats up?

Bass Pro Shops. Jmax is going to try to get a local dealer to carry this stuff. I hope that he is successful. We will see how much influence that he has. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Dk,
I wanted to try it becouse is suposidly has a verry good "hi vis " above the surface in sunlight , and virtually " invis" below the surface, thats what the clame was , after reading this i think im not going to try it...emoScratch emoScratch

I set out to get some Mr Crapie, "hi vis" and ran into the same problem Spur was talking about, everywhere i looked could not find it so i was looking for a good alternative... emoBang emoBang emoBang

Thanks for the input guys

PS Also have been trying some of that dock shooting in the basement, havent caught anything yet but after almost breaking out a window upstairs it seemed like a better place to practice.. i got about 8 different colors of panfish assassins last night and im looking forward to a little better day to get out on the water and give it a try...Im not that hard core to try it on a day when i cant feel my fingers...emoDoh emoDoh

P-line floro has given me the most bang for the buck. I have found that if you go down a size castability is not that big of an issue. Also as someone stated, take your time when spooling and keep alot of tension . I caqn fish the p-line product for many hours without having to respool. Also make sure that you wet the knot good and pull the tabs real slow for greater knot strenght.

I'm a little late on this but I'm not a fan of Vanish either. That line is stiff as a frozen pickle. In my experience with it even after changing knots (polymar to trilene) I still broke off fish and lost alot of lures. I set the hook like a freight train and it just didn't hold up. Now, I love transition... It is more limp and i use it especially on spinning tackle. I also throw it on my cranking rods...

BS the reason I made the "no stretch" comment is because most if not all the fluro adds say that. Halo has virtually no stretch. It even feels like a braid when you get hung up. Vanish is even worse. I believe that is why they break so much more easy than mono. Maybe the Invisx has a lot of stretch. I have never used it but they even say in their adds that it has very low stretch.

I have high-vis yellow on all my reels 6lb crappie, 10lb spinning, 14lb spoon baitcaster, 20lb catfish, and 30lb power-pro. I tie on a floro shock leader in some applications but I place a lot of importance on being able to see my line...especially as my eyesight declines. I can see strikes better and its easier to tie knots.
