Hey guys, what kind of artificial bait is good to throw down at the dam with the swift current? I'm looking for some LM/SM, got lucky on some stripers jigging a 1oz texas rigged, slow retrival...looking to get on some decent LM but seems I get too many snags with a spinner...and can't see enough cover for a texas worm...thinking about going out and buying a shad jerkbait. Also, is it possible to use a cast net from shore to get some live shad as bait?

I used my cast net once in the swift backcurrent below Nickajack. It worked ok, but if you aren't careful it will get snagged on rocks. I saw one guy using a fine mesh long handle dip net to catch baitfish down there.

there is nothing any better than a float and fly.......either below or above the dam.. fish the jig or fly about 3 feet under the float ....below the dam throw upstream and let the current carry it down then repeat....above the dam kinda parallel to the bank....lots of good fish are caught this way.....FA
