Hello All I know we have had a few discussions on CFF about batteries but I cant find the thread. Maybe some folks have new opinions since then anyway. So what in your opinion is "THE BEST" marine deep cycle battery and why ? I have a new to me bass boat I am renovating and I want to put new batteries in it. I will need one cranking battery with at least 800 CCA and two deep cycle batteries I run a 24 volt only trolling motor So blast away.. Lets hear it...the good the bad and the ugly and why you think // know so emoBigsmile

You'll get a bunch of opinions. Here's my current choice(s). For starting/accessories the Odyssey 31M-PC2150/Sears Diehard PM1. For my MK Fortrex I'm using 2 ea Duracell 31DTAGM from Sam's. All are group 31 AGM's. They are big and heavy. They are not cheap. While you're renovating, I'd also consider adding a good 3 bank on-board charger with 15 amps per bank. The Dual Pro "Professional" series is a good one. I'm sure there are others.

You basically have your choice of paying and how long they will last. For example i use the wally world brand because they are very cheap and last a good 2-3years some have better experience. Platinums seem to be best liked at the top of the list. Id personally love to get ahold of some lithiums myself.

I switched to AGM's a few years back and will never own another type battery. Don't have to worry about adding water and they will keep a charge longer sitting around not being used and don't bleed off as bad as wet cells. I have Deka's in my boat but a lot of people say the Duracell labeled battery's that you can buy at Sams Club are the same battery for less money.

you don't need 800 cranking amps with a regular outboard. i use a 29/31 deep cycle for starting with no problems and it lasts longer running lights and sonar at night. most deep cycles are only rated about 600 amps.

I just upgraded to the Sears Diehard PM1 a couple of months ago. Plenty of power to crank the ProXs and run 3 graphs and livewells running all day. for the Fortrex trolling motor, I use the Everstart Maxx 29 batteries from Walmart. Usually get 3 or 4 years out of them and there is a Walmart everywhere if you need to replace.

Do not use Optima Blue Top. I have had two replaced under warranty. I'll use them as long as they replace them, but when I have to purchase again, I will buy something else.

I like interstate for cranking and I use everstarts for deep cycle. I got 6 years out of the last everstarts. I fish almost every weekend and they last all day. I plug up the charger when I get home and unplug it when I go fishing. Thought about trying something else but can't justify the cost!

I am going to need new batteries before next spring as well... Mine are starting to really go down after 4 hours or so. I still have the original interstate batteries that came with the boat in 2009. So 5 years isn't too bad is it? I believe mine are 27 series... I have a 188 DVX Ranger... can I fit 31 series in there?

I'm with oldman, interstate 31 series is the best. I have 2011 on my trolling and they have yet to run out of juice. Even in 12 hr tourney.
